UK's National Grid responds to HackRead regarding the 40GB infrastructure data leak: It says a data compromise was linked to a supply chain attack, with no current evidence of impact to operations, internal systems, or customer or employee information.

UK National Grid issues a "reduced margin" notice for the Eclipse
The UK's National Electricity System Operator (NESO) Electricity Control Centre has issued an "Electricity Margin Notice" covering a four hour period around the partial solar eclipse on Wednesday.
At the peak of the eclipse just after 17h UT, 90-95% of the sun will be obscured over the UK, cutting the power that PV solar cells can produce substantially for a period of time by up to 1760 MW. This, combined with the evening peak demand, has prompted NESO to issue the notice.
The Electricity Margin Notice is not a warning of impending power cuts. Instead it's letting the power generation industry know that there's a period when the safety margin will be reduced more than they want it to be, and therefore inviting flexible generation options to be made available at short notice should it be required. This is a normal type of request for this kind of event.
The full text of the notice in shown in the fourth image.

"The surge in rooftop solar power is particularly difficult to manage during the summer when long, sunny days lead to more generation than a local grid might need. Specialist equipment can help to manage potential voltage issues, but these upgrades have not yet taken place in the area near the Derril Water solar park"
National Grid too busy paying out dividends to its shareholders? Meanwhile the members of this solar co-op stand to lose £2m.

#NationalGrid: Live
More than 90% of the #UK's #Electricity is coming from #RenewableEnergy sourced currently and over 10% is being exported.
-
#NationalGrid: Live
The #Electricity generation price is negative again, with over 85% being provided through renewable sources. Over 5% is being used to store energy in reservoirs to be used later and currently the #UK is even a net exporter of energy to other countries, which is an infrequent occurrence.

Once again, we’re in negative price territory for #Electricity generation with over 80% coming from #RenewableEnergy sources and we’re also net-exporting it to other countries and putting energy into #PumpedStorage too.

I really sympathise with anyone struggling with the cost of oil and gas supplies 🫂
In the meantime, our solar panels are busy supplying the #NationalGrid...in early March...in the northern hemisphere...in Cardiff...which is one of the wettest parts of the UK 😳
That's all after our panels filled our 2 x 13.5 Kw batteries and heated our hot water tank 🤷
Our export limit is 6 Kw, so we're sending nearly as much to the grid as our licence allows 👍

Sorry, but I'm a bit busy today supplying the #NationalGrid!

Good to see demand management being tested to adjust the power needs of AI workloads without impacting latency, and to curtail energy usage to maintain grid stability temporarily.

Switching off wind turbines cost Britain €1.6bn this year. Here’s why.
Wind is now one of the world’s biggest electricity sources and wind power has surged across Europe, sparking concern that billions are being wasted due to “insufficient” grid investment.

“On 13 December, the rare alignment of true north, magnetic north and grid north - known as the three norths - leaves England at Berwick-upon-Tweed, bringing a remarkable three-year chapter to a close.
Magnetic north is monitored using geomagnetic data from the British Geological Survey, combined with Ordnance Survey’s National Grid to track how this alignment shifts over time..."

‘Zombie’ electricity projects in Britain face the axe to ease quicker grid connections.
The UK’s energy system operator is pulling the plug on hundreds of electricity generation projects to clear a huge backlog that is stopping “shovel-ready” schemes from connecting to the power grid.
The backlog will be cleared with the aim of building a virtually zero-carbon power system by 2030.
