#Virga is rain that doesn’t reach the ground. It’s a thing here in the US mountain west. Very cool and photogenic and strikingly dramatic to see in the distance, especially depending on where the sun is when you see it. I just stepped out of my house and a bit of virga exceeded expectations and reached the ground around me. So, just rain, but no clouds overhead, sun casting solstice 7 o’clock shadows. Lasted maybe a minute, pavement dry 3 minutes later.

Tuo eilinen auringonlasku oli erityisen jännä siinä mielessä, että aurinko pääsi valaisemaan pilvien alapintoja varsin ahtaasta raosta. Tilanne oli siis punaisuudestaan huolimatta aikas hämärä. Lisäksi pilvet oli tuolloin kohtuullisen korkealla, joten ne saivat valoa sopivan kauan vielä auringonlaskun jälkeen. Sitten vielä pilvistä tippuva jääkide virga (sade joka ei yllä maahan asti) toi oman utuisen elementtinsä kokonaisuuteen. Tässä vielä laajempi kuva yhdestä kohtaa. Virgaa oli todella paljon.

The final day of #August will be #warm for this time of the year. An increase in #dewpoints and a southerly #breeze is keeping it feeling like #summer.
Keep an eye to the sky as a broken line of light #showers is passing through along a #front. Some are reaching the ground (#virga) so don't expect much #rain through tonight.

Forgot to mention earlier that there is a bit of #rain in the #Northland this afternoon with a weak disturbance passing through.
Not all of it is reaching the ground (#virga), but locations north of Highway 2 could see the light #showers through this evening.
Better rain chances do come Monday.
