  6. Drifting past the pier

Two jellyfish drifted past the end of the pier at Ballycotton, less than a metre under the surface but in the warm light of a setting sun the water grew dark quickly with depth.

  7. 💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🐋🦴 Chinese scientists piloting the submersible Fendouzhe in the southeast #IndianOcean found fossil sites spanning 1,200 km at depths up to 7,000 m.

The #bones belong mostly to beaked #whales, with the oldest dating back 5.3 million years. Living #jellyfish, brittle stars, and bone-boring #worms still call these ancient carcasses home, allowing whale fall to serve as a #deepsea #ecosystem.

  8. We also spotted some strange small #Jellyfish - clear, see-through, striped, and small (size of marbles). Not sure whether they are common here (#BeachyHead #Sussex) or a new phenomenon? #ClimateDiary

EDIT: thanks to great feedback here, it’s now been identified as an Atlantic sea gooseberry, a comb jelly not a jelly fish, and it’s normal distribution includes this area, not a new phenomenon 😊

  9. A "smack" of sky jellyfish in the California sky. We would have also accepted a "swarm" or "bloom" of sky jellyfish. 🪼🪼🪼🪼🪼
