Marrying a Singaporean meant 2 weddings (CA & #Singapore!) and a world of new inspiration! His culture has deeply influenced my eye for color and detail. This is my #Peranakan wedding look!

A pair of mirrored birds lean towards one another, their colours bright, but soft. If you look closely, you can see that their bodies are forming a heart. Nearby, Kueh, delicate sweets, sit arranged with care. Judging by their colours and shapes, they promise wonderful flavours. Each one tells a story of ancient traditions and of the practised hands that shaped them. It is a quiet celebration of heritage and harmony, of the culture of Peranakan: Tiles and Tactics by Eugene Lim from Genie Games with art by Eugene Lim.

Also I asked my cousins why they never mentioned great grandpa, but always spoke about "a coh" which is the matriarch of the family. They look puzzled, as if the thought has never occured to them that they should ever mention him lol.
Peranakan families are matriachical, which meant the women rule the house, the men are just there to bring back the money 😆.
Historically, men from China married local women and sailed back to China for business, leaving them to manage the household for long periods, so I suppose that's why it evolved that way.

The article I wrote today for #Wikipedia Asian Month is closely related to my previous article. This magazine, Tjerita Roman, was another Malay-language literary monthly founded in Surabaya in 1929. It was part of the golden age of Peranakan Chinese literary output in the late colonial Dutch East Indies.
