Leggo sull'Europa divenuta di destra, sulla sinistra che fa politiche di destra, sul giornalismo che strizza l'occhio alla destra, e sull'opinione pubblica che si sta abituando. In tutto questo, c'era un'istituzione storicamente a destra che si é spostata a sinistra riuscendo ad interpretare la realtà. Resto dell'opinione che la Chiesa Cattolica debba chiudere e i propri beni confiscati. Ma in questa fase le parole del Papa mi fanno sentire, a volte, compatito.

I had a friend who got so upset and felt personally attacked purely because I explained why I, myself, don't like patriotism or nationalism when it comes to sports and thus personally, again myself, don't usually support US teams in stuff like the World Cup or the Olympics.
Accused me of cynicism, when frankly supporting a global international community without borders is as hopeful and idealist as you can get, something that patriotism and nationalism strong get in the way of.

I was watching a video with Matt Kennard in it and he mentioned how during the rise in #fascism in both Italy and Germany, the right took advantage of the disenfranchised while the left was not well organised.
This is what's happening now in the US and UK and probably a lot of Europe.
I think about things like this and I think about the role of tech. I'm pretty certain for the left to be properly organised they need independent means of communication that are not corporate owned. The censorship on corporate platforms prevents meaningful discussion, and the left need safe spaces to says the things they need to say without fear of censorship or arrest.
I also think more organisation needs to be in the real world. That is, an actual network of people meeting regularly. And I think at first, this group would be better simply to quietly work out a strategy rather than to join protests and make noise.
But also, if a rise in fascism is coming and people's powers are diminished, there needs to be a strong counter force to that. A network of people ready to resist. And that needs to be outside of corporate channels.
