Grace Nagamine has filed to run for NM state representative, district 51 (Alamogordo) as an independent candidate. (DTS = decline to state)

Today, June 25, was the official candidate filing day at the Otero county clerk's office.

Today is one of those days I’ll never forget.

If I’m being honest, I’m feeling a mix of excitement, gratitude… and a whole lot of nerves. ❤️

Today I officially filed to become a candidate for New Mexico House District 51. While we’re still waiting for my status to change from Pending to Qualified, this moment already feels incredibly real.

This isn’t about politics for me—it’s about people.

It’s about the neighbors I’ve met, the conversations I’ve had, the families who want to be heard, and the communities that deserve someone who will show up, listen, and work hard for them every single day.

I truly believe I’m here for a reason. God has opened doors I never expected, and He’s continued to place opportunities in front of me to serve others. I don’t take that lightly. I know there is still a lot of work ahead, but I’m ready to do it.
