It's already been a depressing week in Australian politics.
Tasmania has seen the Hanson vs. Lambie scandal, and locally, Boags closed its Tasmanian brewery today in Launceston.

We saw this fossil at Eaglehawk Neck yesterday, though nearby Fossil Bay is more renowned for that. It could be somewhere between 200 million and 350 million years old, which is pretty mind blowing 🙂
Today was a day out before I get back to working tomorrow. We went back to Eaglehawk Neck and spent some quality time at the Tessellated Pavement. It was sometimes cold, sometimes wet, and fairly windy at times, but we loved it. The smell of tea tree and eucalyptus was amazing on the walk to the beach.

Scored another two wins to take first place on 5/5. I was the top seed, but not by much, so it was a good result. Even better was the fact that I played well.
This was a good warm up for the next event in Melbourne at the end of the month where I won't be in the top 10 players competing 🙂
It's a small but strong field. Could reasonably be considered a Northern Tasmanian Championship as all the strongest players in the north of the state are playing.
I'm in excellent form and have won all my games so far. Two more games tomorrow
This weekend, I'll be playing a chess tournament in Longford, a town 10 minutes south of Launceston where I live. I don't think Longford has ever hosted chess before, so it's quite something. A chess player works there and has premises that they can use at weekends. Hopefully it will be the first of many such tournaments.

Damn, it's 22C in Devonport, Tasmania! And I'm still wearing a thick jumper because it was about 5C when I left the house this morning
Today, I ran a chess tournament for kids in the northwest of Tasmania. Outside of the main metro hubs of Hobart and Launceston, there isn't much chess activity, and the atmosphere was buzzing, the kids revelling in the chance to participate in their chosen pursuit while parents were so thankful. It was an unbelievably feel-good experience 🙂
I saw some cool clouds as I went for a walk this afternoon.
Just took a walk by the Meander River in Deloraine. I saw a platypus, but couldn't get a good photo. I did see these two Native Hens (turbo chooks) being companions and watching each others back.
Spring is a time for new growth. 🙂

The Red Bridge in Campbell Town was completed in 1837, the work of convicts. It crosses the Elizabeth River in the North Midlands of Tasmania.

Saw a book in Petrarchs Bookshop in Launceston that I thought my wife would like. She's not been feeling too good the past week, so I thought a gentle companion to her druidic texts. She is an ex-nurse, so there's that too.
I briefly had a look inside and it's fascinating, detailing local herbal remedies, which plants have which properties, useful implements, recipes etc, and all at a local level. Amazing!
And so begins the 1.13billion (so far) white elephant.
