On 26 January, a homemade bomb packed with nails and ball bearings was thrown into a crowd of about 2,500 people at a First Nations rally in Perth. By dumb luck or mechanical failure, it did not explode.
Consider the date. A device built to kill Aboriginal people, thrown on the day the nation celebrates its own founding. Whoever built it understood the symbolism. The country pretended not to.

Walked through #Goolugatup Heathcote in Applecross on a headland above the Derbarl Yerrigan Swan River.
Many tall beautiful trees.
But this is social media and we're looking at the large gum tree that has no large branches left on it.
There are signs of large branches having broken off the massive trunk. Others have been cut off.
And a chainsaw cut has been started on the trunk near its base.
This tree may be a widowmaker.
Trying to find the species.

The Institutional Silencing of the Palestine Solidarity Movement
Join us on Friday, August 21st at 6:30pm in the State Library Theatre for a public meeting discussing the institutional attempts to silence our movement. Purchase Tickets Here Hear in person from guest speakers: Yasmine Johnson (Students for Palestine) Gwen Velge (Academics for Palestine) Lama Al Ramahi (Australian Healthcare Alliance for Palestine). For months, the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion has heard witnesses — almost invariably supporters of Israel — […]https://moraleconomy.au/2026/08/05/the-institutional-silencing-of-the-palestine-solidarity-movement/

CW: Fundraiser linked to horrific family violence event
I can't vouch for this beyond having seen it in a PerthNow article. It's to help pay expenses for the 12yo child who recently lost their mum in tragic circumstances.

Gina's Mouthpiece, with added fangs today, defends Gina the saint of all that is good and pure in Australia, our hope for the future, and our saviour from the communist fools in the ABC.
OK, it actually reads more like fascists not wanting to be held to account.
Ain't it grand though to buy editorials & front pages by giving your friend lottsa motza?

CW: Spider
These large spiders (body maybe 20mm, leg span maybe 50mm?) are common at work but hard to get a photo of. This one is in a rarely used part of the yard. There's another above the lunch table, and one on each of the big trucks. I think they might be Nephila Pilipes but would love confirmation.

Woodside renews pursuit of activists whose hoax gas stunt evacuated Perth headquarters
ICYMI: Woodside has sensationally reignited litigation against peaceful campaigners in the WA Supreme Court for asserted lost earnings and brand damage following a 2023 protest that evacuated its corporate headquarters in Boorloo/Perth.The protest was to bring attention to the harmful effects of Woodside’s gas expansion on climate and cultural heritage.Woodside, the largest oil and gas company in Australia, says that other people were involved in the peaceful protest three years ago and is […] -
Gina's Mouthpiece (formerly The West Australian, purveyor of parochial big business insularism) is controlled by individuals so deluded by their rarified elitism that they fail to see that "first strike this century" is something to celebrate, a sign that not everything is going the way of the billionaires.
A poke in the eye. ☑️

Coogee Sharknet Report
The air is warm, almost preternaturally.
But windchill keeps the spooky away.
The water still warmish. The floats on the sharknet seem to be permanently submerged - a current may be dragging the net towards horizontal.
This is frankly disasterous as the sharks will all have escaped. We got in up to our knees before one of the party got frozen feet.
Itchy knees became apparent to all on the way back to the change rooms. But disappeared after legs were washed.

Edited to steer readers away from mistakes.Perth has lots of sandy soils.
Sandy soils have many advantages.
Holding lots of water so its available for shallow rooted plants is not one of them.I now have 95kg of clays (bentonite & attapulgite as kitty litters) slaked in 10litre buckets waiting for the rain forecast to start Thursday.
(edit: Next time I stir slaked clay daily& only put 2kg of dry clay in each bucket. I've had problems with non-slaking.) -
Coogee Sharknet Report
Water warmish yet in the shallows.
Water clear.
Sharks invisible and not hungry.
1950s US college jackets, white pants and board shorts displayed by late teen homonids.
Brittanny Spears cultist absent.Disturbing shark-seal interaction portrayed in stick drawn sand etching.

CW: unpleasant attitude
Setting to roast chestnuts from Spudshed.
Remembering the Bunya Pines and Moreton Bay Fig trees, that were in the gone-wild strip between the Birthing Stone and the (landscaped) spring, on was for a long time a bank on the fresh water Swan River.
To those who decided to kill the Bunya Pines and Moreton Bay Figs - constipation is too good for yous.

RECLAIM SUBIACO: STICKERING SPREE
Since last year, media reports have emerged of transphobic stickers showing up repeatedly across Subiaco, including on playgrounds. Just this month, police decided that "the content of these stickers does not meet the criteria for a criminal offence", and so we're taking the issue into our own glue-stained hands, countering with pro-trans stickers. On the 9th May, we'll meet at Louis Baxters Cafe (2/50 Subiaco Square Road) at 10am, near the train station, then head out in groups to spread […]https://moraleconomy.au/2026/04/27/reclaim-subiaco-stickering-spree/

My partner (Nova) and a close comrade of ours at the TDOV rally in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). They covered Wingnut Dishwashers Union's "Urine Speaks Louder Than Words". (With an original verse about local issues re: black deaths in custody)
OutInPerth included this banger of a caption in their article: "Nova was joined by a special guest to punctuate their speech with a urine-inspired tune directed towards law enforcement." #TDOV #WingnutDishwashersUnion #Boorloo #Perth -
