Could it be that chilli plants draw a lot of nutrients from the soil, meaning chillies don’t grow as well in the same spot the following year?
If chillies do deplete the soil, what would be good plants to grow there afterwards to help the soil recover?

Feeling a bit excited about my chillies! 🌶️ Today, I planted them in the community greenhouse and mulched the soil with straw to keep it from drying out.
Fingers crossed I didn’t plant them too early—weather forecast says it'll drop to 9°C the coming nights!

New sleeproom mates 🌱
Today I welcomed three new chili plants (Sibirian house pepper) into my home. Since the living room is already taken over by lemon drops, dragon breath, and UFO chilies, these little guys earned a spot in my bedroom.

The warm weather convinced the chillies to grow but this year it’s sloooow 🌱... and only 17 out of 30 seeds have sprouted so far.
Still playing plant detective - Why did only half make it?
Too cold during the day (less heating while I’m out)?

So I have had a chance to taste some really awesome food. The first time was on Sunday when one of my Home Care workers brought me a bag of homemade baked goods which included cinnamon rolls, blueberry muffins, and some sort of a small chocolate cake or chocolate bread. Not only that, but last night I was pleasantly surprised with dinner from my GF. Southwestern style eggrolls from Chili’s, which I hadn’t had in years. Last week I made the Tempura Sauerkraut and Onions recipe from J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s The Wok cookbook.
The end result was fine, but more chewy than crisp. If we were really into tempura, I’d give these tempura recipes some more work. But we’re not really into tempura.

Kurz und dick und sehr scharf. Sorte ihm nicht bekannt. Da ich die #Chilies am liebsten frisch mag wegen des Eigengeschmacks, habe ich sie mit #Zwiebeln und #knoblauch püriert und füge die entstandene Paste nach und nach dem Essen bei. Extrem gut gelungen und sehr lecker. -

Ají amarillo is the first early-early chili seeds (February 5) to pop up. Also the Rocoto red and Serrano seeds have popped up. Ají amarillo and Rocoto red were from new seed packets, and Serrano was from a chili from the grocery store, so I'm not surprised they're the first to wake up. Going to start some more, on the normal cycle, this weekend. #gardening #chilies

Starting some early chilies: cayenne, piccante calabrese, ancho, habanero, shishito, fresno, guajiro, 虎皮椒, rocoto red, ají amarillo, Thai, Anaheim. I'll start some others that will go into the ground later, but these will likely go into pots on the deck. #gardening #chilies
