Au mois d’août, l’Atacama (Chili) a connu des chutes de neige, un phénomène très inhabituel dans cette région parmi les plus arides du monde. Si le sommet du volcan Licancabur (ici à gauche) est parfois coiffé d’un chapeau blanc, il est fort rare que la neige descende jusqu’à son pied, comme sur cette image satellite capturée le 14 août dernier.
Ce manteau blanc souligne les « pressure ridges » à la surface des coulées de lave visqueuse qui rayonnent depuis le sommet. Ces structures en arc de cercle se forment perpendiculairement à l’écoulement. Leur morphologie rappelle celle des ogives glaciaires, même si le processus de genèse est différent. -

Baum-Chili "Giant Rocoto"Diese Chili ist mehrjährig und hat den Winter auf der frostfreien Terrasse gut überstanden. In diesem Jahr lässt sie sich mit den Früchten allerdings ganz schön Zeit, aber so allmählich wird es was, auch wenn sie noch grün sind.
Ich mag an den Früchten, dass sie so dickwandig und saftig sind.Schärfe: 8

Poème du Chili, de Gabriela MistralLes Éditions Une ont publié une édition bilingue de ce monument de la littérature chilienne, traduit par Irène Gayraud. Le texte est composé de 138 poèmes, mais l’enchaînement de ces fragments forme un récit cohérent, au cours duquel les personnages (le fantôme de Mistral, un garçon et un bébé cerf) parcourent le Chili du nord au sud. La nature est omniprésente, comme le note justement la traductrice dans sa préface :
« La géographie de Poème du Chili est donc avant tout une géographie rurale peuplée, plutôt que d’être humains, d’animaux, de plantes, d’arbres, de montagnes, de volcans, de fleuves. »
Je ne suis pas un grand lecteur de poésie, mais j’ai beaucoup apprécié cet ouvrage ; peut-être parce que j’ai moi aussi parcouru le Chili du nord au sud il y a une quinzaine d’année, et que les paysages si bien décrits par Mistral évoquent quelque chose en moi. Pouvoir se plonger dans le texte espagnol en vis-à-vis de la traduction est aussi un gros plus.
Le début du récit, dans la partie nord, mentionne à plusieurs reprises le caractère minier du pays (« L’archange du cobalt », « Cuivre », « Nuit de métaux »). Voici un extrait de « Mineurs » :

Schärfe 0-?Das ist das Überraschungsei unter den Chilisorten, denn es gibt auch schärfere, aber noch durchaus erträgliche Ausreißer.
Die Schoten sind dünnwandig, etwas mehr als fingerlang, schlank geformt und wirken etwas knautschig.
Grün geerntet enthalten die Früchte keinerlei Schärfe.
In Rot umgefärbt ist der Geschmack herausragend: angenehm scharf und frisch-fruchtig, leicht zitronig.
Die Pflanze ist ungeheuer reichtragend.Die Sorte ist das japanische Pendant zur berühmten Piementos de Padron aus Portugal.
Unbedingt probieren:
In Öl braten (Löcher pieksen nicht vergessen) und mit etwas Salz würzen.Sie sind wunderbar als Tempura (im Teigmantel frittiert), für Grillspießchen oder mit Frischkäse gefüllt.

Butter bräunen, #Mais (Dose) darin „kochen“, bis er etwas bräunt. Abkühlen. 2/3 vom Mais im Blitzhacker grob schreddern, zum Teig geben. Den Teig in eine Tortenform gießen, mit dem restlichen Mais bestreuen + backen.
