  1. Craig is having a bad day / week / month and year.

“ The night before (September 8), local MP Katie Hall gave a speech to state parliament, zeroing in on #M3’s power lines. She called #NextDC’s behaviour a “shocking example of #corporate arrogance in my electorate”. Sources tell us she’d been working for months to bring in new data centre guidelines that could derail M3’s expansion. Hall was an influential voice because she’s not only the local member, but is also under threat from a Greens challenge at next month’s state election. The guidelines were subsequently introduced on September 22.

At this point, a more sensitive CEO might be feeling the heat. Maybe the market should know revenue guidance might be in doubt? Not #Scroggie; His bullish announcement of the converts (on the morning of September 9) was about “proactively enhancing” NextDC’s balance sheet.

By September 17, NextDC had the paperwork done, including for its “delta placement” – the important part of the convertibles that lets hedge funds lay off their exposure to the share price. And in the middle of all this (September 15), there was a council meeting which confirmed that development of the data centre was still paused.

From the bankers, to the analysts, to the bond investors, were any of them given a clue from NextDC that there was a probable #revenue loss coming? Why didn’t *the CEO’s army of #AI assistants* leap into action? The company’s share price going through the floor this week means the $1.1 billion in convertible bonds – cheap financing with a sweetener for investors just a month ago – are now an anchor. A busted convert.

Investors should want Scroggie’s head for this.”

    ‘ the CEO’s army of #AIAssistants’ indeed.

  2. Spotify is expanding music discovery beyond its own app, with integrations in Meta’s Muse, ChatGPT and Claude.

Users could ask an assistant for a running playlist, a podcast related to an earlier conversation or a summary of an audiobook from where they stopped.

CEO Gustav Söderström says listening data is not sent to partners.

According to him, the assistant sends the request to Spotify, where the company’s own sy…

  5. At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, Cerebras co-founder and CEO Andrew Feldman predicted that a future with an AI device in every home may not be far off.

He expects personal assistants to know their users well, run partly on the device and partly through online services, and potentially access credit cards to make purchases for them.

Feldman also said these assistants would have a protected security boundary.

The assistant is currently being tested through iMessage; its app is not yet available.

Persona says the assistant runs on the company’s systems, not on the wristband, and that users will be able to delete their data.

  16. #Apple changes full-disk access #permissions to curb abuse from #AIagents

Apple says it is changing its #macOS #privacy settings to stop third-party app #developers from misusing them to access message histories.

Friday's announcement comes two weeks after tech columnist Jason Aten said that Meta’s new general-purpose #AI agent Muse sent him an unsolicited notification referencing a thread between him and a co-worker over #AppleMessages. Aten said he never granted #Muse permissions to read his messages and had assumed they were off-limits. #Socialmedia last week blew up with masses of people who agreed and said the incident showed that #AIassistants given access to calendars, emails, messages, shopping accounts, and other resources are akin to a skill saw or other power tool. While potentially useful, they can do real damage if not used carefully.

Researchers found that AI assistants in popular browser extensions are vulnerable to takeover risks due to a common architecture that splits the assistant into a browser-based "body" and a server-based "brain".
