Travelers Losing Trust in Rewards Programs
Rocket Travel by Agoda has unveiled a new industry report that redefines how travel brands approach customer loyalty amid shifting consumer expectations.
The report, titled “The Loyalty Value Playbook: Redemption Experience and Cash Spend as the New Benchmarks for Customer Growth,” was developed with travel intelligence firm Skift.
It warns of a growing “loyalty value gap” between what travelers want and what loyalty programs deliver, as 77% of consumers now say they are more likely to abandon a program than they were three years ago.
The playbook outlines six key strategies for improving loyalty effectiveness, emphasizing personalization, redemption clarity, and integrated customer experiences.
It recommends brands use AI-driven data tools, transparent pricing, and exclusive perks such as flexible check-in and late checkout to strengthen engagement and repeat bookings.
Rocket Travel by Agoda said the guide aims to help companies adapt to evolving traveler needs and minimize point breakage, noting that about half of all earned loyalty points go unredeemed.
The report combines original research, case studies, and expert insights to show how seamless, personalized reward systems can build trust and drive revenue growth across airlines, hotels, and other travel sectors.

Agoda, the Asian travel booking service now owned by Dutch firm Booking.com, laid off people in Singapore and somehow their lawyer thought it was a good idea to write that they will revoke severance payments if workers reported this to the Singapore government
"In one portion of the severance agreement seen by CNA, employees were instructed not to make reports with any government agencies, statutory boards or trade unions including the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management (TADM) and Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP).
They were also asked to refrain from bringing any mediation requests, claims or proceedings on their employment or termination against the company.
Those who do so and breach the terms in the agreement will have their severance entitlements revoked, the document stated. If any severance payments were made by Agoda to the employee, they would have to repay the company "in full" and "on demand"."

In my way to Scotland Edinburgh for the #MoodleMoot.
1. Online Check-In is down, servers for passanger exchange data are down since this morning.
2. The domain of the hotel I booked via #Agoda.com is free for purchase currently.
#Fefe would say "Softwareproblem, kann man nichts machen" (software error, nothing can be done about it).

Agoda’s Eco Deals: Supporting Sustainable Travel in Asia
Digital travel platform Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey reveals its ranking of Asia’s most sustainability-conscious travelers.
Travelers from the Philippines earn the top spot, with 86% responding that sustainability is important in their travel choices for 2025, higher than the average for all Asian travelers combined (68%).
Travelers from India (82%), Taiwan (80%), Malaysia (80%) and Vietnam (77%) round out the top five.
This survey, which engaged over 6,000 respondents across 11 Asian markets, spotlights the evolving landscape of sustainable travel in Asia, where authentic and purposeful tourism, and off-peak travel are becoming more prominent.
Authentic Experiences Drive More Sustainable Choices
Filipino travelers are increasingly motivated by the allure of authentic experiences and the opportunity to contribute positively to local communities.
25% of respondents are keen on supporting local economies when they travel, while 22% prioritize authentic tourism.
Vietnamese travelers are also guided by personal values and beliefs, with one in five citing these as their primary motivation for more sustainable travel. This trend underscores a broader movement towards travel that is not only enjoyable but also meaningful and impactful.
Exploring Off-peak Takes Center Stage
Filipino travelers also seek to mitigate their impact on the environment by traveling during off-peak seasons to alleviate overcrowding, a choice made by 18% of respondents.
Additionally, 17% of travelers are opting for accommodations with sustainability certifications while 19% are packing reusable items like water bottles and shopping bags on a trip to reduce waste.
Michael Hwang, Country Director, Philippines at Agoda, said, “It’s inspiring to see Filipino travelers actively making choices that leave a positive impact on the destinations they visit. Agoda’s Eco Deals Program is designed to support these efforts by offering great value deals on partnering properties.”
Since the recent launch of the 2025 edition, Agoda’s Eco Deals program has provided travelers with discounts of up to 15% on partner hotels across 10 Asian markets.
This marks the first year of Japan and South Korea joining the Eco Deals Campaign, providing more Asia-bound travelers the opportunity to support their favorite destinations.
For every Eco Deals booking, a dollar is donated to WWF conservation projects aimed at protecting wildlife and conserving critical habitats across Asia. More information can be found on www.agoda.com/ecodeals.
Agoda’s offerings include over 5 million holiday properties, more than 130,000 flight routes, and over 300,000 activities, all of which can be combined in the same booking. Download Agoda’s mobile app or visit Agoda.com to discover the best deals for your next trip.

Question: Is #Agoda something like #BookingDotCom, but without the RyanAir hell of pointless dark patterns?

I was eyeing a property on #Airbnb which was also on #Agoda at a much cheaper price. So I booked on Agoda.
A month later, Agoda emailed me that the property owner was canceling. I thought it was a scam or a phishing email, so I asked customer support. They verified that it was legit. I then messaged the property owner on Airbnb to confirm if it was true. She said she wasn't aware of it.
I ended up canceling. Then Agoda gave me cashback which I could use for another booking. Odd.

A consumer advocacy group in Saitama Prefecture has filed a cease and desist lawsuit against online travel agency Agoda, saying the firm’s terms of service that limit it from being liable for compensation violate consumer protection laws. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2023/12/07/japanese-consumer-group-sue-agoda/?utm_content=buffer312f1&utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon&utm_campaign=bffmstdn #business #hotels #tourism #agoda #saitama

So after charging my card for nothing, and stonewalling me when I tried to talk to them about it, #agoda finally reached out to query the chargeback I lodged with my bank. They are super dodgy, tell your friends to steer clear of them.
-
Bit frustrated with #AMP Bank. Rang them weeks ago about a dodgy transaction from #agoda, after hearing nothing, lodged a request via the website, which has since "disappeared"
They call me today to tell me I have to put it in writing (again), but of course, don't send me the form, just make me ring them back to ask for the form.
There has to be a better way guys.

PSA: DO NOT use Agoda's cashback rewards when booking, take any discount outright, #Agoda hides a "processing fee" of $1.05 for every $2-10 of cashback rewards.
There is no mention of this fee in the terms, nor in the email you receive informing you that your cashback rewards is ready
https://www.agoda.com/info/agoda-policies.html#8They just auto deduct their fee from what you are shown at booking vs the eligible amount to claim in their app.
EXTREMELY DISHONEST.
