With that said, @msbellows, yes certainly this will end, as must anything that cannot go on forever.
The #hyperscaler #GenerativeAI spenders have enormous debts and obligations to investors and customers, and those parties will quite soon demand something tangible as a return.
The current obligations (debts, promised capacity, etc.) seems to force actual money to be produced some time in 2027. Whether pouring more money in happens at that point to keep the bubble inflated, I can't say.

Two things are true, @msbellows:
There is no identified purpose for #GenerativeAI that anyone has even proposed showing any path to profitability. The #hyperscaler spending is quite irrational. https://isaiprofitable.com/
This does not stop a bubble from inflating. The market can continue to spend irrationally, so long as new fools can be found with money to spend.
Economist J.M. Keynes has a famous aphorism:
“Markets can remain irrational a lot longer than you and I can remain solvent.”

Can't speak to price today; you might be shocked at how high RAM prices (driven by the insane #hyperscaler #AIBubble corporations) will affect purchase price for electronics.

Firstly, thanks for the blog post link.
It has helped me to crystallize my own thinking about so called #aibubbleLet's dispense with the obvious first, the author is anonymous and his previous work deals with water and land rights as investment vehicle.
I don't think he is a quant, but a holder of short positions in NVIDIA and other #hyperscaler exposed assets. Hammer looking for nails.
The reason I say this is because his analysis is fundamentally flawed. Only five data points, two of which are inferred. At second derivative the noise of this poor data set gets amplified quadratically.
His thesis will nevertheless hold for a while.
So he can be "right" until he isn't.
As Keynes said "Markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent"Where any forest folk prayer for AI collapse falls apart is this; the promise of AI is replacement of all intellectual labour forever. In addition to which, the #broligarch "Networked state" AND Authoritarian statists all rely on AI as a control substrate.
The use of "markets" to measure AI is a fiction.
You're measuring with a ruler that flexes.
When #capitalism failed in 2008, it was bailed out by 13 trillion dollars globally of socialism (people's money) in the "too big to fail" fiasco.Individual investors may get wiped out (and your pension fund), but AI is not going away.
AI is the internet, the railway and the carrier battle group. -
I hope, @timbray, that the unrestrained scraper hordes are doing so primarily at the behest of the #hyperscaler demands for training data, and thus the demand will dry up when the #AIBubble bursts.
I fear, though, that like spam, the costs borne by the perpetrators are low (the scrapers are operated illegitimately on botnets of compromised machines) and so, like with spam, even a marginal return will be enough to keep them scraping indefinitely.

Wow, dazu gibt es sehr viel zu sagen, wobei ich dazu eher ergänzen meine:
1.) #Hyperscaler: ja, wie weiter oben geschildert, ist das auch das Geschäftsmodell von #ArthurMensch (#Mistral).
2.) Ich habe kürzlich eine kleine Recherche für den Bereich Recht durchgeführt. Fazit: "Data is King", das Modell spielt weniger einer Rolle.
3.) Dies deckt sich auch mit einer Erkenntnis bzw. einem Trend auf der Anbieterseite:

Die Bundesregierung möchte Deutschland zur „KI-Nation“ machen – und dafür in großem Stil #Rechenzentren bauen. Bis 2030 sollen sich die KI-Rechenkapazitäten vervierfachen. Die ökologischen Folgen spielen kaum eine Rolle. Im Gegenteil: Wenn Klimaauflagen den Ausbau von Rechenzentren bremsen, dann ändert die Regierung einfach das Gesetz. Jetzt will die Bundesregierung Umweltauflagen für Rechenzentren lockern.

Agreed in the main, @bkuhn.
I imagine an obvious response is “if we don't keep putting *new* data into the #LLM, it will fall out of date”. As far as it goes, yes that's true.
To which I'd respond: so what, why is that so urgent? Why should the internet be degraded for that? Not enough to justify the hammering of websites, the bulldozing of consent, the active deception to pass blocks, the refusal to countenance anything except #Hyperscaler interests. Stop it all, now.
