  1. I was told I was “on the chopping block” in my first job in games.

Chapter 5 of my memoir is now live.

This continues my time at Software Projects in 1984, with no real idea what I was doing and nobody there to tell me otherwise, learning fast as I went.

It includes a wiped Tatung Einstein boot disk and porting *Manic Miner* and *Jet Set Willy* without the original source code.

It also marks a turning point. Getting those first games shipped, and realizing I could actually do this.

Posting on a Saturday this time instead of the usual Monday. We’ll see how that goes.

  6. 🖥️ Ah, the Sharp X68000! A journey into the past where Wikipedia's main menu is more exciting than the actual content. 😂 Dive into riveting details about obscure operating systems, case designs, and disk IO—because who doesn't love a good snooze-fest about 80s tech? 🙄

  10. The Seiko UC-2000, released in 1984, was a pioneering smartwatch that could store memos and perform calculations when paired with its keyboard.

  12. @CWSmith @internetarchive

My favorite BASIC book from way-back-when is "The Atari BASIC Source Book," written by the developers themselves.

Lots of insight into their thinking. Remarkable how much they accomplished with mere kilobytes of RAM. Fun read.

I think I found a scanned version of the book I was thinking about.

It's from @internetarchive and it was written in 1979,the year of my birth.

I was in front of a TRS-80 with this book and not really knowing what I was supposed to do with it at about 5 or 6 years old.

Here's the link for anyone interested.

  14. Watching last night’s #RetroElectroWorkshop from #Yesterday channel, and just heard that the #Commodore64 was one of the first #computers to have #cartridges for games. Erm …. no. Also the voiceover man keeps saying #gameConsole for the #Speccy and #C64 being worked on. And breathe … #Spectrum #ZXSpectrum #RetroComputing #80sComputing

  15. Still sorting through my stuff and rediscovered this: a 32k daughter board for a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16k (Issue 1). I doubt the chips still work! 😅

  16. Bought myself an extremely scarce book about making music on the Commodore 64. I don’t intend to start coding SID tunes etc, but as a lifelong musician and someone who adored my Commodore 64 computer back in the day I’m fascinated by the process and want to learn more. With the postal strikes the book may well arrive after Christmas. But I’ll get it sometime.

  17. Ordered filaments and rest of the electronics from botland have arrived. I'm firing up the printer tomorrow and will be finishing the PiSCSI for Mac SE.
