Let’s see if I can make a quick Macintosh restoration while the baby is napping 😴 🫣
Here is one of those PowerBook 7.5V 2A power adapters. They have probably all failed by now but they are a nice design and worth saving in my opinion! This one provides around 3.4V with terrible ripple and drops to 0V with slightest load. Not dead. Just very sad. Let’s go! #classicmac #retrocomputing #restoration

Gotta say I was a weeency bit disappointed when I booted Fedora 43 into Linux kernel 7.0.4 and wasn't greeted with THIS... 😁

Found the very first #3D Modeling program I ever used circa 1992, "3D-Edit."
It came with a bunch of shareware on a 105MB hard disk I got from my parents that year. The program itself was released in 1986.https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/3d-edit

Got the first alpha of BomberTalk working - a networked Bomberman clone for Classic Mac.
Played a game across a Mac SE (1987), a Performa 6200 (1994), and a Performa 6400 (1995). One C89 codebase, three builds, three machines on the same LAN.
No sprites yet, just coloured blocks. But the networking works - all three find each other and play in sync.

March 14, 1984, Susan Kare demonstrates the Macintosh user interface on an episode of The Computer Chronicles. I love how she says “Mac,” not “the Mac.” #vintageMac #classicMac #Apple #Macintosh

Excerpts from Bill Atkinson’s last interview, with David Pogue. The bit about “loser-friendly” software made me laugh. What a brilliant and kind soul he was. #vintageMac #classicMac #Macintosh #Apple

@blakespot @siracusa I've also been working my way through tower Macs for the past 20+ years, and it's weird to think that my next "big desktop" won't be one (even after waiting the ~5 years that it now takes for them to fall into my price range on the used market).
My first tower Mac—after a series of "pizza boxes" that started with a Quadra 605—was a Performa 6400.
It was a wonderfully upgradeable machine at the time. It had room for a second hard drive, external SCSI (scanner, CD-R drive), internal slot for a modem, TV tuner slot, and two PCI slots.
I loved that machine. IIRC the reason I upgraded was that it wouldn't run Mac OS X when the Public Beta came out.

It's #MARCHintosh, so I decided to post an update on my interactive fiction #HyperCard project.
Because I always have multiple projects in development, progress has been slow but steady—including the user interface, text parser, and other foundational under-the-hood development. The proof-of-concept UI is attached!
Please help with this project by offering your feedback, suggestions, and support:

I spent a lot of time trying to recover some archive CD. The problem: OS X recognises de format, but cannot handle the images, I have a Basilisk2 with system 7 which does not recognise the CD. The CD contains a tool to handle the images, which OS X cannot run. #retrocomputing #classicmac #Diskimage

#Netatalk experts: any idea why, as of late, my AFP #GlobalTalk shares have been showing up with generic document icons on Mac OS 7.x? But the icons look just fine on Mac OS 9?
This started happening around the time I migrated my shares from my NAS over to a Raspberry Pi, and upgraded to Netatalk 4.3.2.
I've confirmed that the share folder permissions are the same on both systems, as well as the permissions on the hidden “.Icon$\r” files at the root of the shares. However the Finder does not allow me to change the icons via the Get Info screen (on both Mac OS 7 and 9), which seems to imply that there _is_ a permissions issue of some kind. Yet, folks can read and write to the shares just fine.
I tried deleting the hidden icon files, which made no difference (other than causing the default Netatalk icon to show on Mac OS 9, since I removed the custom icon). Changing the "legacy icon" option in the Netatalk config also makes no difference, other than making a different Netatalk icon show on Mac OS 9.

#Macstodon now runs in the latest bleeding-edge build of the Snow emulator! And if you use Snow's built-in HTTPS stripping, then you don't have to configure WebOne or another proxy, just install Macstodon and start using it 😎
Thanks @twvd for the FPU fixes and all the other hard work you put into Snow! This is the kick-in-the-pants I need to get the next version of Macstodon out the door 🙂

Has anyone thought about doing a Linux distribution that basically boots into a classic mac emulator in full screen, with maybe some proxies for web access and I/O running locally? Something like infinite mac, but locally.
This would be user friendly and probably quite fast.
You could probably store most of all existing classic mac software locally.
