Yeah, it would have to be its own GUI subsystem, but you're right, I don't really want to reimplement all the basic UNIXy syscalls and such.

Maybe do my own kind of #uxn, but with baked-in graphics primitives, pure monochrome, a little higher resolution by default, and maybe something like Pascal???

    Basically, I'm talking about re-inventing the #ClassicMacintosh, aren't I. 😄

  6. Found the very first #3D Modeling program I ever used circa 1992, "3D-Edit."
It came with a bunch of shareware on a 105MB hard disk I got from my parents that year. The program itself was released in 1986.

  11. I’m not a fan of self-boosting, but I realised I was remiss in not putting some hashtags on this post after it started gaining the small amount of traction it has.

For those who boosted or liked the original, I’m not asking or expecting a repeat. I just hope with these hashtags it gets a little more traction to acknowledge the genius of #BillAtkinson, who affected so many lives through the genius work he did.

I know he impacted many aspects of my life through the work he did on the Mac, the original System, and MacPaint, and it seems many others were similarly impacted.

It’s been truly inspiring for me to see Mac legends talk how he put the lie to the saying “Never meet your heroes”, as he seemed to have been a hero to many, and never a disappointment in person.

    RIP, Bill. :alogo6:

Funny enough, I only ever saw a handful of examples of it back in the 90s, all in stock photos within HyperCard. I don't recall seeing a single #ClassicMacintosh application that supported it at the time.

Fortunately there's plenty of support for it today, both on mobile and desktop.

The SE/30 was one of my grail machines, because I had a regular SE, and I always dreamed about having a machine that would be ~3+ times faster ;)

The color classic was so adorkable. I remember seeing 10" trinitrons on fancy pay phones in the early 90s and thinking, "Why can't Apple make a classic mac with THIS screen??" Surely enough, they did!

It's funny now that I so fondly reminisce about #monochrome interfaces like #ClassicMacintosh and #OpenLook / #OpenWindows, because back then, I literally dreamed of having color, especially the #Amiga! ;)

  31. 35 years ago today, this beautiful machine came into my life.
This photo was taken in 2011, two years before I sadly gave it away (due to a rushed interstate move).

  36. Hey #ClassicMacintosh officionados!

Does anyone remember the name of (or have a photo of) the cooler addon for #ClassicMacs (128, 512, Plus) that inserted a fan in the handle slot to suck air up and out of the passively-cooled macs?

I remember seeing one at university circa 1992, but I can't find any pictures of it.

I'm trying to find it for @libreivan, who wants to develop the equivalent for the iMac G3

  41. Last weekend I spent fixing the analog board of this #Apple #Macintosh #ColorClassic I have recently purchased. Its display was unstable.
I feel like I finally "figured out" desoldering, which honestly was my biggest weakness.
It was mildly terrifying to turn it on afterwards, but it works!
While a great many folk have done this before, it was my biggest restoration project yet. I'm happy that I was able to pull it off and not kill it — or myself 😅
