  1. Huh, this is genuinely a great idea!

It’s a USB-C adapter that adapts old school power supply barrel jacks to USB-C PD. The voltage (and polarity?) is settable via web interface (via the USB-C end, I’m guessing).

I would pay extra for a model that had an OLED display and buttons so I can set voltages and polarity right on the device instead of using an app/browser.

  2. We've been busy the past two months and Version 2.9.3 just dropped on the App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/analog-t with tons of new features directly created based on user feedback.

  3. Hmm, given two Sony Cyber-shot DSC camera from the early 2000's. Wonder if there's any usable components in there, or if they can be hacked somehow. 🤔 Filters removed for IR photos? Output repurposed?

    (CyberShot DSC-P10, DSC-P01 I believe). #vintageelectronics

  4. We just submitted AnalogTV for tvOS 1.6 to Apple for review. analogtv.net

It's got tons of fixes, but one feature I think is really cool: when you sign in to Plex, you can pair with QR code.

It's rendered entirely in CEEFAX block graphics, not a bitmap dropped on top of the teletext page. Same mosaic characters the rest of the screen is drawn with.

As far as I know, this is the first time anyone's put a QR code on #CEEFAX. #Vintage #VintageElectronics #vintageTV #BBC

  5. I had some superb luck this week with tubes I bought. I got hold of 5x EF91s for just £5 with shipping, and while two of them are Mullard, the other three are actually Marconi-Osram Valve, made in 1958 and in their original boxes. I'm super happy about that as the Marconi-Osram tubes are rare, and these sound superb in my Little Dots. I actually have well over 20 of these EF91s, most made in 1958 but some spanning up into the 60s before the Hammersmith and Gateshead factories shut down. The ones I have made in 1957 also have heaters that flash brightly on cold-start.

  6. Hey everyone! I thought I'd give Mastodon another try since I have a much better phone-camera now, and can take much better photos of the vacuum tubes I have. That's what you'll primarily see here - small and large vacuum tubes being used for headphone amps. I have over 1,300 of them at the moment, with over 100 DIP-8 opamps spanning something like 30 models. I just love swapping things and seeing how they change the sound - so long as they're stable.

  7. There's no signal passing in the right headphone channel of this Tascam 244 multitrack cassette recorder, and the left channel is distorted. Removed the Playback Amp PCB in order to recap the whole Monitor section. Now to reassemble and test. #recdel

  8. The latest version of AnalogTV analogtv.net now does full signal chain simulation of Apollo TV. This is not a "filter" or "shader" this is a full emulation of the signal.

  9. Desoldered & reflowed broken solder joints on multiple rear jacks; power had been cutting out when the plug was wiggled.

A charred transistor prevented signal to the right channel Monitor Out jack; replaced it.

Disassembled & deep cleaned; calibrated the tape mechanism; tested I/O, routing, recording & playback.

This Tascam 424mkIII will be returned to the client in Nashville in a few weeks! #recdel

  12. La Bowmar 901B n’était pas “smart”, mais elle était révolutionnaire : LED rouges, touches Klixon, et un cœur Texas Instruments.
Un ancêtre lourd, cher… et absolument mythique.

  14. Who's got any tips on why the colour saturation on this little 7-inch TFT monitor is so poor? It was originally built for use in the broadcasting industry, I think, with its BNC and S-Video connectors. It could be twenty years old or more.

It's a RON-6070. I've opened it up to see if there are any obviously failing electrolytic caps, but they all look good to me.

What do you think? What else should I check?

(The image is otherwise clean and stable. I've been using the S-Video input with an Atari 140XE which has correctly saturated output over the same interface and connector on a different monitor.)

Was digging under my desk tonight and found this old Supreme 333 Analyzer. Eventually it will be cleaned up and have a beautiful dark panel and the wood treated and waxed. After that it will be tested and parts replaced if necessary. I have no use for it so will be dragged to a local ham radio flea market next fall. I will post an image after it is detailed. It will be pretty.

  17. Thinking about picking up a vintage iomega Jaz drive to transfer some old stuff i still have. #storage #VintageElectronics #JazDrive

  18. How rad is this. This ahead-of-its time r/c transmitter was released in 1990. Not only does it still work, it’s still being supported 35 years later. I just installed a new processor to allow it to run an aftermarket fw with more memory! #RadioControl #VintageRCSociety #VintageElectronics

  19. This was a doorbell camera thingy at one point in time. Now it's "Ding Pong", as Simon Augustin gutted it, inserted one of the Sony portable b/w CRT TV (watchman I believe) and hardwired the most common Pong chip from back in the day into this thing (General Instrument AY-3-8500 if I'm not mistaken). It's a two player device, but you can play alone as well. It's quite special and I like it a lot, and it's pretty unique. The stuff that this guy comes up with ... crazy. He's also one of the few guys who knows the Interton VC4000 inside and out, even working on another new game for it. Anyway, thought you might like the Ding Pong. Cheers!
