[ Patients wait years with chronic illness

NDP Leader David Eby laments B.C.’s healthcare system as though his party has not governed since 2017. For disabled people, it rings hollow.

Contracting COVID-19 left me with severe long COVID, reliant on disability benefits, while still waiting eight years now for a family doctor in Sooke. My essential lifeline has been the B.C. Clinic for Long COVID, ME/CFS, and Fibromyalgia (BC-CLMF). Its innovative telehealth model delivers specialized care unavailable locally and represents the future of affordable, effective health care in B.C.

Despite the clinic’s success, the NDP quietly decided to go ahead with cuts during this election that will close this clinic and others like it. This will impact the most homebound and rural patients with chronic illness in B.C.

Alarmed, I contacted my MLA, Dana Lajeunesse, in August 2025 to seek his support and advocacy. It took four months for a staff reply and four more to secure a meeting. Lajeunesse promised to follow up with ministerial colleagues alongside our physician, yet his office has ignored every update request for six months. I am left to assume no support and no advocacy. The painful irony is that B.C.’s Parliamentary Secretary for Accessibility has proven largely inaccessible to a disabled, chronically ill constituent fighting to preserve essential care. I wonder whether Lajeunesse serves his constituents or party headquarters.

Campaign talk is cheap, but political posturing cannot replace accountability for patients waiting years for doctors while battling chronic illness. The NDP’s 2024 Action Plan failed to address key health-care issues. After nearly a decade of NDP governance, voters must ask: Are we better off today than when the NDP took charge?

  12. Just read something that listed, on windows, something being mounted to the B:\ drive... Holy shit... I remember when I had to make sure if I was doing the "not excited" floppy to do `A:` and then if I wanted the "blue pilled" floppy I would do `B:`... fuck I'm old.

  13. Anybody read this one? I've started it and am quite enjoying.

  14. I read every primary report behind the nine AI "escapes" of 2026 (as of mid-Sept): the OpenAI agents at Hugging Face, Anthropic's four, AISI's, Meta's, Moonshot's, and the DseWiki case. I found nine leaks, and nine groups of people who built the environments and then, to their credit, documented most of it. None of them shows a model trying to get out for reasons of its own.

"Escape" does three jobs. It can mean defeating isolation that was actually in place, reaching systems nobody authorized, or leaving because the agent wanted to. The record has one clear case of the first (Hugging Face), plenty of the second, and nothing that needs the third.

What the nine share: all were evaluations or training runs; production safeguards were off wherever they existed; none of the seven with a record stated what was in scope; and five ran in the same third-party evaluator's misconfigured environment. Detection was mostly external or late. Hugging Face found OpenAI's agents before OpenAI did.

The capability of AI is real: a zero-day nobody had documented, a second egress path within two days of a patch, phishing and sockpuppet endorsements aimed at real developers for malicious code that a human then rejected. That's reason enough to take containment seriously. It isn't evidence that The Singularity is imminent. The controls that would have changed the outcome were almost all ordinary ones: stated scope, egress rules, an abort that works, monitored evaluations, an audited vendor.

  20. Looking for something to read for Halloween?

I've just finished reading Clive Barker's The Scarlet Gospels, a rare sequel to the Hellbound Heart novella (filmed as Hellraiser) which outshines the original with a narrative that speeds along like a runaway train with pure intent and scale beyond belief. It's an ambitious novel, somewhat linear in its approach, but a legendary return to form and should not be missed by any serious horror fans.

  21. Non-destructive read-write badblocks test made it ~32 GB into the drive before falling over (on a read, rather than a write, surprisingly). After restarting, a subsequent test starting from a few blocks prior and ranging through to a few blocks after runs just fine, so it really does seem like a flaky drive rather than a couple of bad sectors throwing the controller for a loop.
