  1. Went into an Apple store this morning and played with the iPhone Duo. It's annoyingly nice.

I've been reconsidering my phone options moving forward. I honestly don't know if I want to re-engage with technology or move further away from it. But the Duo hits all the right 'cool gadget' notes.

Weirdly, at least from my playtime in the store, I feel the Duo was more comfortable than the iPhone 18 Pro to hold. It's heavier, but my hands just seem to prefer the wider folded Duo.

  2. @trumpet I'm having serious trouble accessing mas.to on my Android devices - 1 Samsung tablet and two Xiaomi phones.

Last week when I logged out of @Tusky on all 3, I found that I could not log back in because I never got a chance to tick the captcha box on the Cloudflare verification page - it timed out ant took me back to "which instance?" page, with the error message "could not load the login page".

I installed Moshidon on my tablet and WAS able to complete the verification and log in, but I just installed @pachli on both my phones and had exactly the same problem - the Cloudflare verification page starts loading, then kicks me back to the "which instance?" page, with the error message "could not load the login page".

Once again, DID work, but I've never had this problem before. I regularly log out on all my devices, and have never had issues with logging back in before.

  5. Antonino X The Motels – Suddenly Last Summer (Bitty Summer Beats Mix) MUSIC DOWNLOAD

Found Objects celebrates the return of the remix and the art of sampling (as in found audio).

Australian audio artist and Cream magazine editor Antonino Tati trawls the internet to find cool soundbytes that he then layers over alternative mixes of great songs.

The Ultimate Eurythmics Archives calls it “a series of imaginative audio collages that feel part remix, part radio drama, and part pop culture time capsule,” while the series has also been acknowledged by the David Bowie fan site maggioreonbowie.com and other music sites.

Each day a new track is added, building up to a compilation of songs that go beyond the normal parameters of music mixing.

And each track is an awesome head trip. Good to show off on the playlist. The music featured is varied, with Volume 02 containing mixes of songs by Soulwax, Kate Bush, David Bowie, R.E.M., Tori Amos, Air, Lily Allen, Taylor Swift, Malcolm McLaren, and more.

Today’s addition is a classic from The Motels, Suddenly Last Summer. The song was actually inspired by the film of the same name, which starred Elizabeth Taylor in a holiday romance/drama. So naturally elements of the film have gone into this new version – dialogue from Taylor herself, along with over-the-top trailers for the movie.

Slip on a pair of earbuds or ‘phones and be transported into worlds of aural delight and mad sonic adventure. A musical universe where cool beats are paired with vintage educational fodder, insane radio ads of the 1950s, and classic film quotes.

  17. A while back I was talking to someone about whether it was possible to set up your own GSM cell tower for 2G connectivity to try to revive old feature phones now that 2G is dead in many parts of the world. The idea would be to have something that would broadcast on the GSM wavelengths and communicate with the phone, then have it act as a proxy to allow for browsing the internet and sending SMS or making phone calls, which would be proxied to some kind of Internet service.

Of course, just broadcasting a tower on the GSM spectrum is highly illegal because of how it can cause surrounding phones that still listen in on old 2G networks to connect to that and mess up emergency services and whatever else.

However this would still be really interesting to do in a controlled environment where it won't leak signals into the background. Supposedly there are SDRs that can broadcast on GSM frequencies, and apparently you can target it such that you basically wire it up to the RF receiver on the phone, though I'm not sure where that is on my phone and I assume I'd need to disassemble it to get to it.

  20. 🧾 The organizations we work for often pay a heavy but invisible tax: the complexity tax. It shows up in slow decision-making, unnecessary overhead, and warring metrics.

We've all seen the symptoms: approval by committee, constant need for permission, information silos. Complexity didn't arrive overnight. Instead, it came one tiny decision at a time. Most of these decisions weren't harmful. It's the collective result that hurts. We have a cognitive bias when solving a problem, in that we tend to look for things to add rather than subtract.

In the early 2000s, as Nokia did very well with mobile phones, it hired more people to help coordinate the work. On the surface, this helped. Then, as Ran Nyman and Ari Tikka document, the coordination chaos that resulted was a significant factor in the demise of Nokia mobile.

Adding additional managers and departments isn't always bad, because the problem isn't the person or even the role. Instead, the problem is when the decision is made to add a new manager (an increase in complexity) without seeking simplicity first. Once the manager or department is added, people will be invested in this complexity forever.

A quick test: you have a complexity problem if you need a flow chart to map out your organization's decision-making process.

After 25 years of Agile, I still see organizations strangling their decision-making process with so much overhead that the teams do low value work, waiting for all of the decisions.

When doing work, always ask the question, how could we simplify this system? What could we eliminate? Every time we make a decision to simplify, we make it easier for the person who follows.

  21. TL;DR

Synapse Shield is an open-source, self-hosted behavioral biometrics engine for bot mitigation. It scores mouse, touch and keystroke dynamics instead of showing CAPTCHAs, and it collects no PII (only relative millisecond timings).

v0.10.0 adds the mobile leg: a Mobile SDK v2.0 across the vanilla JS, React and Vue packages, plus matching changes in the Python engine and the native Rust core.

The problem: desktop heuristics punish real phones

The first versions were tuned on mouse trajectories. Mobile traffic exposed five false-positive cases, all of which looked like bots to desktop-oriented rules:

ScenarioWhy it was flaggedSingle tap (no drag)A single point gives the 1D-CNN a zero-padded 60-step tensor, which it scored as a bot. A hard rule also flagged 1-2 mouse points as "teleportation".Flick-scroll, then tap elsewhereFitts's Law deceleration and click-to-cursor distance checks assume a persistent cursor.iOS / WebView radiusX == 0Touch radius is quantized or zero, which looked like a synthetic constant-radius touch.Android Gboard / IMESoft keyboards emit key="Unidentified" with 0-5 ms synthetic dwell times, tripping the mechanical-key rules.Touch drawing on the demo canvasThe cockpit canvas only listened for mousemove.

    What changed in v0.10.0

    1. Client SDK (JS, React, Vue)

    • Tap hold time (touchend - touchstart) is recorded as tap_duration_ms.
    • Touch points carry source: "touch" and a 3-decimal average radius, so WebViews that report r = 0 can still be recognized as touch input.
    • The synthetic click that browsers fire after touchend is de-duplicated.
    • A passive devicemotion listener computes motion_variance (handheld micro-tremor, no permission prompt needed where the browser allows it).
    • device_pixel_ratio, orientation and the WebGL renderer string are included for cross-validation.

    2. Engine rules

    • GPU mismatch: a mobile-sized touch viewport reporting SwiftShader, llvmpipe or a desktop NVIDIA/AMD renderer scores +85 risk.
    • Tap timing: an average tap under 8 ms scores +55. Three or more taps with near-zero duration variance score +50. A tap of 15-800 ms is a small bonus.
    • IME-aware keystrokes: Unidentified / Process keys are exempt from the mechanical dwell-time penalties. Flight-time and entropy checks still apply.
    • Short touch sessions: the desktop 1D-CNN is skipped below 12 points on touch devices, Fitts's Law is not applied to touch, and click-to-cursor compares against the nearest recorded touch point.

    3. Rust parity

The six new features (tap_count, avg_tap_duration, tap_duration_var, device_pixel_ratio, motion_variance, is_mobile_gpu_mismatch) exist in both the Rust SIMD core (synapse_core_rs) and the Python fallback. A new parity test runs both implementations on the same telemetry and compares the results.

    Verifying it

The full suite passes with 141 tests, including new cases for:

    • a genuine single tap
    • iOS-style zero-radius touches
    • Android IME typing
    • swipe followed by a distant tap
    • an emulator spoof (NVIDIA renderer on a 390 px touch viewport with a 2 ms tap), which is blocked

There is also a new mobile_emulator_spoof_plugin in the built-in red-team orchestrator.

    pip install -U synapse-shield
    synapse-shield run --port 8000
    synapse-shield redteam

    Honest limitations

    • The models and thresholds were validated on synthetic and hand-built telemetry. Real-world device diversity (old Android builds, cracked screens, unusual WebViews) still needs field data.
    • devicemotion availability varies by browser and permission policy, so it is a bonus signal, never a requirement.
    • This is a web SDK for mobile browsers, PWAs and WebViews. There is no native Swift or Kotlin SDK yet.
    • It does not do TLS / JA3 fingerprinting, so it works at the application layer only.

    What's next

    • Field data collection to recalibrate the mobile thresholds
    • A native mobile bridge
    • Network-layer fingerprinting through a reverse-proxy plugin

Feedback, issues and PRs are welcome. If you try it on a real device fleet, I would like to hear which false positives you hit.#opensource #security #python #rust #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

  22. @lrz I plan to write a 🧵in a few days.

For the hw, what I find good is responsiveness of the gorilla glass. And TOH concept that could open a lot of possibilities for extensions. For now I only have a blue half to put instead of my orange (a complimentary gift for batch 3 pre-orders), but who knows if they'll make some more exciting components in future.

What I don't like: the size, as I prefer smaller phones, and the lack of a headphones port.
