Wife's off invigilating exams this week and she's just sent me this photo of the latest Postbox Topper near the school. The writing on the flag reads "Topper Knitters Tea Break. New Topper To Follow."

Wife has just remembered she took a photo of the latest post box topper near her parents' house today. This one celebrates the recent Chinese New Year with a dragon at the centre passing on the flag to the snake in front, we guess.

Wife is sneaking in a week of work invigilating exams before we head off on holiday and she's sent me a photo of the postbox topper near the school she's at which was obviously put up for Halloween last week.

A wonderfully broad topic of #Animals for #JukeboxFridayNight this week.
Here's a classic, early 90s industrial piece we went mad for in the clubs. The fabulous Lesley Rankine on lead vocals, but be warned: the music starts abruptly and there's flashing imagery and some potentially unsettling animation too.

Never watched the Patrick Troughton era Doctor Who episodes before and we're not familiar with the companions either but our TiVo recorded a colourised version of The War Games yesterday so we're watching it now. It's a good thing we're not downing a shot every time Jamie gets captured in this.

For #ThrowBackThursday here's a photo from my wife's side of the family simply labelled "Sam and colleagues". I don't know who Sam is but I love the photo and the bus is interesting. Browns Blue was a Leicestershire-based bus company that operated from 1924 to 1963. The apostrophe in the bus company logo here dates this to before 1954.

The beach at Weston-super-Mare (Weston-super-Mud to everyone) at low tide. Weston has the second largest tidal range in the world with the difference between high and low tides being over 1.5 kilometres.

Church of St Trophime, Arles back in 2019 for #DoorsDay this week, even though it's mostly the gorgeous Romanesque architecture of the surround that's featured here as opposed to the doors themselves.

It's #DoorsDay and this is one of several identical doors along one wall of the Justice Court building in Cherbourg, France. The colour is gorgeous, but not as gorgeous as that Georgian-style fanlight above.

Final day of the two-week #cruise and it's just the second sea day. A time to relax and enjoy the views and try not to think about packing to head home.
Last night we dressed for Halloween on the ship and I got some good looks for my satanic monk outfit.
Today we bumped into people we'd toured with on Dominica. "Mark, Marie, you two are the best! We've been on trips with other people recently and they've been awful. I wanted to throat-punch one."

Yeah, neither of us would have done what Joel did. Fuck that for a laugh.

Wednesday night is our "there's feck all on the TV" night so we've finally finished off The Sandman series and it's such a shame to see it end, although good that by my understanding this was due to wanting to keep it true to the source material and not expand it out beyond the original writing too much. So many clever themes and characters.
Next binge-watch we start might be next Wednesday, and might be the second season of Wednesday.
-
Watched another three episodes of The Sandman which just leaves three to go. Three episodes are about our limit in one go for binge watching shows anyway but when a series is this beautiful to watch with such fabulous characters we also want to prolong the binge as much as possible too.

I can't help, but for more visibility I'll add the alternative spellings of #palaeontology and #palaeoanthropology in case somebody's following either of those tags and can help you.

My final #FiftyYearsOfHipHop #JukeboxFridayNight submission - you can tell I've enjoyed this theme this week - will be something just undeniably fun, as most of Shock G's stuff was. This is Digital Underground with No Nose Job.

Work out music playlist randomly played this track I haven't heard for a couple of years and had forgotten how much fun it was. Astronomy and metal and childish humour? Yeah, Uranus by Nanowar of Steel has you covered.

Now that there's no sport on we've had time to catch up on the final of Lego Grandmasters Australia that's been broadcast over here over the last few months and yeah, just such an incredible winning build. The Aussie version of Lego Masters is easily our favourite of the national spin-offs.

Today's lunchtime #walk involved a new direction just to change things up, avoiding the cemetery this time and heading towards the water and part of the Pilgrim's Trail here in #Portsmouth. We did 4.6 kilometres today at a pace of 5 kph which surprised us as we felt it was slower than normal, but the more even ground might have helped a lot there. We were pleased to see an AIDA cruise ship in port too. A German brand with distinctive prow art.

Excuse the crummy phone photo, but I was reminded of Iceland's Yule Cat by another post earlier, and since it is #Caturday here's a Christmas decoration of it in Reykjavík from a few years ago. We also bought a book about the Yule Cat as a Christmas gift for our niece.
In the grand tradition of disturbing fairy tales, the Yule Cat is supposed to eat people who do not receive new clothes before Christmas.

I just clicked on an email link to a #NextDoor thread discussing local politics in this part of #Portsmouth and what in the name of fuck was I fucking thinking?

Reminiscing with my missus about the only time we saw a game played at Twickenham but that was one of the #NFL games many years ago. Definitely not a stadium built for 3+ hours of sport because the steep seating and lack of leg-room was excruciatingly painful. The toilets situation and concessions were very poor too. Hopefully those latter two points have improved in the interim for rugby fans.

Pub 3 of 4. Nice here. Couple of ales on although the one I've tried is nice but is absolutely not the ale it claims to be. I know this ale well and had it in pub 1 and this is not it. Bit quieter, friendlier, big improvement over its predecessor, and little touches like an Angela poster in the women's toilet and in the men's a 1913-1914 Pompey lineup.

Found an episode of #Columbo on (on a Sunday, this isn't difficult), and it was one of my most well-remembered episodes. Psychics, magicians, and #murder by #guillotine, and most memorable for how the #psychic demonstration is shown to be the scam they all are. As a dedicated #sceptic this has always stuck in my mind. It's been fun seeing if my wife could work out the trick before it was explained, and I'm happy to say she has.

For #RomanSiteSaturday this is #Housesteads, the more modern name for #Vercovicium, a #Roman #Fort along #HadriansWall in the north of #England. At Housesteads there is a section of the wall you're actually allowed to walk along (not that this stops people from walking along the bits you're not supposed to). This picture is of the #granary building. The pillars were to raise the floor and keep grain stored there dry.
