  1. Fence on Hadrian's Wall, designed to deter barbaric invaders from walking along the wall?

The path does take you along the top of the wall for several hundred metres here, but either end of the designated section is blocked - presumably to protect more fragile sections of the wall. 📷

  2. Housesteads Fort, seen along the path from the cafe. The pay/display car park is covered by an annual National Park pass, and even if you didn't have an English Heritage card, you can still walk around the outside of the fort onto the Hadrian's Wall path. 📷

  3. View from Housesteads towards Sewingshields this afternoon. Another shot with my 20mm Viltrox, this time with a 1/8 black mist filter... it's quite subtle. 📷 (Is "analoguiness" an actual word? Because I was feeling that it adds a touch of that.)

  4. For #RomanSiteSaturday this is #Housesteads, the more modern name for #Vercovicium, a #Roman #Fort along #HadriansWall in the north of #England. At Housesteads there is a section of the wall you're actually allowed to walk along (not that this stops people from walking along the bits you're not supposed to). This picture is of the #granary building. The pillars were to raise the floor and keep grain stored there dry.

  5. Into the post-Christmas dog days, the photo of the day of the year reaches August. Here's a visit to a favourite location on the Roman wall, Housesteads fort, which was housing an installation "The Future Belongs to What Was As Much As What Is", by artist Morag Myerscough, poet Ellen Moran with words sourced from the community along the wall.
