, one can easily see that #Venus moves a lot faster across the sky than #Uranus. This nicely reflects the difference in orbital period (7.5 months vs 84 years, although Earth's orbit around the Sun also affects the daily move).

The Best of FYFD 2025

Happy 2026! This will be a big year for me. I’ll be finishing up and turning in the manuscript for my first book — which flows between cutting edge research, scientists’ stories, and the societal impacts of fluid physics. In Greek mythology, #Oceanus is the #Titan god of the great river that encircled the world, believed to be the source of all seas, rivers, and springs. He was one of the eldest Titans, born from #Gaia and #Uranus.

Unlike most of his Titan siblings, Oceanus stayed out of the great war between the Titans and the #Olympians. With his wife and sister #Tethys, he fathered thousands of river gods and ocean #nymphs known as #Oceanids.

I really enjoyed the recent Nova five-part series Solar System: Worlds. I was delighted that more than one segment touched on specific aspects of some of the worlds that I’ve incorporated into my published (and as-yet-unpublished) stories over the years.

It got me thinking about making a list of the worlds of our solar system that I’ve set stories on or worked in one way or another. I put together the table below.

Table notes:
