Mercury and Jupiter have quickly moved away from each other this morning. They barely fit together in the frame.

Ammonia Ice Clouds on Jupiter
The top cloud layer on Jupiter is thought to consist of ammonia ice, but most of that ammonia hides from spectrometers. It does not absorb light in the same way ammonia does.

Satellite Rings Movie
This brief movie clip (of which the release image is a still frame), taken by NASA's Cassini spacecraft as it approached Jupiter, shows the motions, over a 16 hour-period, of two satellites embedded in Jupiter's ring. The moon Adrastea is the fainter of the two, and Metis the brighter. Images such as these wil...

Mercury and Jupiter rising in the east in bright morning twilight.
The second image is a magnified view of the first and shows the overexposed disk of Jupiter and faint images of its four Galilean moons: Ganymede, Europa, Callisto, and Io. (Third graphic is from planetarium sky simulation software.)
This is a follow up to my toot from a few days ago:

Morgen früh könnt ihr am Morgenhimmel die Konjunktion von #Merkur und #Jupiter beobachten. Ein kleiner Feldstecher hilft dabei, da beide Planeten nur 12° von der Sonne entfernt stehen. Außerdem ist die Dämmerung schon fortgeschritten. Der engste Abstand wird um 12:39 MESZ erreicht, wenn Merkur nur 33'08" nördlich von Jupiter steht. #astronomie #astrodon

Saturday morning photography challenge: Jupiter and Mercury low in the east in morning twilight.
On the morning of 15 August, the planets Jupiter and Mercury will be close together. Their separation will be slightly more than the width of the moon.
You need an unobstructed view to the east.
But where exactly to look for them? The finder chart shows that the planets will be below the star Pollux...at least at my latitude of 33 degrees north.
If you live farther north the planets will be below the star Castor.
If you live in the southern hemisphere the planets will be below Procyon, but they will not rise until the sky is considerably brighter. This event favors the northern hemisphere.
Clear skies and good luck!

The picture shows the Tropical placement of her Jupiter, but in Vedic Astrology, the Conjunction occurs in Cancer, where Jupiter is Exalted.
Protected by Jupiter or what? 😏

NEW RELEASE from Skylark Duquesne!
The latest installment in my new collection inspired by the moons of Jupiter: All These Worlds are Yours. May I present: "Metis"Metis was the mother of Athena and her story explains why tyrants go paranoid and turn on their most trusted and valuable aides, and also has the origin of migraines.
