  3. Hype for the Future 247/284: Maryland’s Eastern Shore

Introduction The Eastern Shore of the State of Maryland is a notable area east of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay in the State of Maryland and is most commonly associated with Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties. While Kent County is associated with the extreme southwestern portion of the Greater Philadelphia area, the more southerly counties of the State of Maryland are associated with rural communities and larger […]

  5. Hype for the Future 120L: Boroughs of Jennerstown and Boswell, Pennsylvania

Overview The Boroughs of Jennerstown and Boswell are each located within the boundaries of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, at the northern end of the county beyond the Route 30 corridor west of the Route 219 corridor. Of the two boroughs, Jennerstown is further west, located along Route 30, and named for Edward Jenner, while Boswell is a larger community predominantly along the Route 601 corridor. Located nearby and to the east is the site of Summer’s Best 2 Weeks (SB2W) along the […]

  6. A grey (and wet) morning in #Somerset. There is talk of this being the Holboell's subspecies of Red-necked Grebe (or it could 'just' be the Eurasian version). Anyway, it was good to see it.

  8. Hype for the Future 63K: Town of Fairfield, Maine

Overview The Town of Fairfield is actually located not in Kennebec County, as may have been suggested in Article 63J, but within the limits of Somerset County further north. While the village area is effectively a northward extension of the City of Waterville in Kennebec County, the vast majority of the Town of Fairfield remains largely undeveloped or at a smaller scale, with the Kennebec Valley Community College area along the Kennebec River and Route 201 providing access to the L.C. Bates […]

  9. Hype for the Future 63E: Town of Skowhegan, Maine

Introduction The Town of Skowhegan is the county seat of Somerset County, Maine, located in the southern portion of the county. Located in the west-central portion of the State, the Town of Skowhegan is known for hosting the Skowhegan State Fair every August, notable (in some accounts) for being among the oldest continuously operating state fairs in the United States. Places of Interest The Town of Skowhegan hosts a central hotel at the Skowhegan by Kasa as well as the Skowhegan History […]

  10. Hype for the Future 63C: Town of Pittsfield, Maine

    Overview

The Town of Pittsfield is located along Interstate 95 in Somerset County, Maine, with United States Route 2 covering the northern part of the town. The Depot House Museum is a rail museum that represents the railroad history of the community located north of Skowhegan.

  11. Hype for the Future 62GFM: Town of Guilford, Maine

Introduction The Town of Guilford is located in Piscataquis County, Maine, along Route 6 at the junction with Route 150. As one of the smaller towns of the State of Maine, with a permanent population of under two thousand residents, the community has a disproportionate tourist base, especially in the southwestern portion of the Town containing the village area. Attractions The Town of Guilford, Maine, is home to the Maple Inn, the Guilford Bed and Breakfast, and the Spencer Bakery and […]

  12. Hype for the Future 62WFP: Plantation of West Forks, Maine

Introduction West Forks is a plantation in Somerset County, Maine, and one of only three mainland plantations in the State to lack the name “Plantation,” the others being The Forks and Grand Lake Stream. While Monhegan and Matinicus Isle are also plantations, these are island plantations in which the use of the term “Plantation” is less necessary and more implied. Lodging The Inn By the River is a predominantly rustic place to stay within the State of Maine. Located opposite Route […]

  13. Hype for the Future 62RTP: Rockwood Township, Maine

Introduction Rockwood is an unincorporated area located in northern Somerset County, Maine, most notable as the gateway to Moosehead Lake and the North Country of the State. Located along Route 6, the community provides access to the Rockwood Bar and Grill and numerous places to stay, particularly cottages, located along Moosehead Lake with limited services including minimal expectation for cell service.

  16. Belatedly attacking a mini #cheese truckle that I’ve had in the fridge for months. Getting to it before it’s past it! Ironically it’s my absolute favourite cheese, Green Thunder #cheddar from the #Snowdonia Cheese Company. Better late than never! Eating it with Evil Chilli #Chutney from #Somerset. 17. Walkers are Welcome Town - Wivelscombe

Wiveliscombe is a small, vibrant, friendly community on the edge of Exmoor, the Blackdown and Brendon hills and the nearby coast. There is a myriad of well maintained footpaths, some near national trails, readily reached from The Town Square.

Wiveliscombe is easily accessed and makes a visit to this little known part of Somerset well worthwhile.
