We visited #Minehead yesterday, which is a town on the #NorthSomerset #Coast. Although it’s not that far from where we live, it’s still takes a while to get there as a north-south link is across #Exmoor #hills and there are some pretty narrow roads to traverse. It was a pleasant enough journey and we parked by the railway station.

Camping season is back at long last ! I'm camping in Exmoor National Park (UK) this week in my tiny tiny campervan. Today I walked around Wimbleball lake (and went to the dam) and went to the clapper bridge at Tarr Steps. About 12km walking today. #exmoor #camping #clapperbridge #lake

Welcome to the Royal Oak in Porlock
In the centre of Porlock, surrounded by moor, woodland and sea air, The Royal Oak has been part of village life for generations. Fires lit in winter, doors open in summer, and tables shared in every season.
It’s the kind of inn where conversation lingers, dogs doze beneath chairs, and walkers drift in from the hills in search of something warm and good. Locals, travellers, neighbours and newcomers — all are welcomed, and all are part of the story here.
The food at The Royal Oak reflects the landscape around us. Our menu changes with the weather, the tides, and the work of local farmers, growers, and fishermen.
Expect hearty dishes in winter, lighter plates in summer, and a steady respect for the ingredients that come from Exmoor’s fields, farms, and waters. We cook simply, so the flavours can speak for themselves, and we prepare everything with care — the kind of food that feels both familiar and quietly special.
Vegetarian friendly. Vegan options. Gluten free available.
Local ales from the moor, orchard ciders from the valley, and a thoughtful wine list — best enjoyed slowly, in good company.
Our wine selection traces the great wine regions of the world, with bottles sourced directly from small, family-run vineyards and independent producers. Each wine is bottled at the estate, preserving the character and craft of the maker — no mass bottling, no shortcuts — just honest winemaking, poured with care.
We’re proud to serve local craft beer from On The Level Brew Co., a small father-and-son brewery based here on Exmoor. Every batch is brewed by hand, with care, character, and a genuine love for good beer — the kind that brings people together. It’s local, independent, and exactly what a village pub should pour.

Welcome back to New Coast Kitchen in Croyde
We are a contemporary British restaurant that serves modern dishes that emphasis great produce and ingredients. Wholesome cooking from young, exciting and ambitious chefs focused on creating tasty hearty meals in an environment that is friendly, welcoming and super efficient.
Managed by owner operators the restaurant is a real labour of love and customer centric where positive customer experiences is our number one goal.
New Coast Kitchen is based in the heart of Croyde Bay in North Devon. We work very hard to offer our customers fresh, high quality dishes served in a precise modern style.
Croyde is very much a seaside holiday destination and has an array of great family friendly pubs and eateries which has allowed us to really commit to offering holiday makers and locals a very different dining experience for the area. We constantly challenge ourselves to improve and push standards across the business every day with the goal always being to offer our customers the best of everything.
Our kitchen is run by our Executive Chef Martin Baylis who is a young, talented, and exciting chef. Originally from Worcester Martin moved to North Devon 6 years ago and has worked in some amazing restaurants both locally and across the country. His vision and passion for offering top quality dishes consistently is the backbone for our restaurant and has given us a strong foundation to create something that we hope many people enjoy and will continue to visit now and in the future. Recently James Checkley joined us as Head Chef.
We aim to keep both the food and drinks menus fresh and exciting by making numerous changes throughout the year to align with seasons, introducing different combinations of flavours and as we uncover new local suppliers offering the best produce the South West can offer.
We are delighted to welcome everyone of all ages at New Coast Kitchen. Due to the size of our restaurant and the style of service we are sadly unable to accommodate highchairs and pushchairs and we do not have the facilities to welcome very young children. If your little one is happy to sit at the table and dine from our full menu, we would love to serve them with you. We do not allow dogs inside the restaurant at any time.
To make a booking please visit our website where our full menu and terms and conditions can be found.

#SouthWest walking people. Tomorrow I've got a whole day to go for a mooch. Where is your fav spot? I can get out to #Dartmoor, #Exmoor, #Quantocks etc. Cornwall is a bit too far, and I find the mendips a bit dull. Blackdowns are my doorstep so know pretty much every inch.
Where should I explore!
