  5. Eventful day starting at 5 AM traveling from Stockholm 🇸🇪 to Utrecht 🇳🇱 to talk #authorization and #OPA at #VodafoneZiggo before heading to Haarlem and an amazing dinner with @parcifal and his wife. Tomorrow I’ll be presenting on #Regal, my #Rego linter, at the local OPA Amsterdam meetup. Good times!

  6. My body is actually looking forward to shifting to Daylight Saving for once. (I hate the concept)

But I've started (well for a while) waking up in the middle of the night around 3-4 AM.

So with DST it would be 4-5 AM which is much closer to when my alarm goes off on weekdays - so it would be nice to feel like I am not waking early.

  8. 5 am on the day #2025FieldDay started. A lot of us camp on the site. What a wonderful way to start the weekend!

  9. All the talks at PyCascades from yesterday were great. I missed a couple talks because I was doing final rehearsal for my own talk, but I'm planning to watch them later.
Sadly I can't join in person today, but I know the talk lineup is just as great as yesterday's.

I'm awake, and at the airport for the 5 AM flight to Washington D.C.
I'm headed to GW OSCON, which I just learned, was also the site for the first ever PyCon back in 2003! 🤩

  10. A good morning! I woke up shortly before 5am, turned around and slept another hour, then got up, donned my #Running gear, messed around with my blog, did the dishes (too tired last night), warmed up and ran off into the snowy cold. Afterwards, indoor cycling and rowing workouts, now I’m on my way to have a shower. Hope y‘all have a great Sunday! #applewatchultra3 #AppleFitnessPlus

  11. “Don’t be afraid to show up for big opportunities early!” - Futurist Jim Carroll

    --
Futurist Jim Carroll is writing a series, The Art of the Infinite Pivot, based on 36 lessons from his 36 years as a solo entrepreneur, working as a nomadic worker in the global freelance economy. The series is unfolding here, and at pivot.jimcarroll.com.
    --

At the ski club, I'm known as the guy who is first at the chairlift most mornings and at the golf course as the first tee guy. For a sound check for my keynotes? If they ask me to be there for a 7 am AV test, I'm there at 655AM.

And yes, I'm the guy who is first in line for the flight.

    Annoying? Maybe.

    Rewarding? Definitely!

Whether it’s a fresh dump of powder on the slopes or a pristine morning on the Old Course, I've long thought that there is a profound advantage to being first. And looking back at my 36-year voyage, it seems I’ve applied this "First Chair" philosophy to every disruptive trend I’ve covered. If you want the best "runs" in the future, you can’t wait for the crowd to wake up; you have to be there when the light is just hitting the snow.

Being early isn't just about speed; it's about finding opportunity before everyone else does. And that becomes critical to your ability to pivot into a new career or business opportunity.

If showing up early means showing up at 6 AM to "do the work" while the rest of the world is still hitting snooze, then I'm all in. Most of these Daily Inspiration posts are written during my first moments of clarity after 5 am, coffee in hand, mind abuzz with ideas.

Many people fear being "too early" because they worry about looking foolish or standing alone. But the reality might be that it means they miss out on the opportunities that others see.

The "Infinite Pivot" requires the stamina to be an early riser. You have to be willing to stand at the lift while no one else is there, because that’s the only way to get the best snow of the day.

The fact is, the freshest snow—and the most profound insights—belong to those who refuse to wait.

    ---

Futurist Jim Carroll believes that being ahead of your time is one of the greatest opportunities to move your career forward through continual pivots.

  12. I promised some data, and here it is!

I didn't record the actual sound unfortunately but you can see a massive discontinuity in the noise floor at just before 6 AM Pacific time (America/Los_Angeles) followed by highly unsettled noise floor conditions for the remainder of the day.

The next graph picks up again after midnight (and unfortunately stops just before 7 AM because the battery voltage got too low and my radio switched off). You can see the unsettled conditions start to simmer down again by about 5 AM.

This looks like it MAY have correlated with a solar flare that peaked at 7:55 AM Pacific (14:55 AM UTC). If so, it's a fascinating and unexpected result! I just wanted to chart the noise my local power company is making!

  13. I posted a new #yoyo tutorial for #5AMay. This one explores some new concepts that happen when you blend responsive tricks with an unresponsive yo-yo. youtube.com/watch?v=WJo5XzyPqV

  14. It's #5AMay in the #yoyo community. 5A, also known as Freehand or Counterweight, is a style of yo-yoing that has a weight attached to the end of the string. This allows for a completely different style of play, including completely letting go of the string while playing.

Here's some footage of me playing 5A while surrounded by synthesizers for some reason.
