Two bona fide academic papers on BBC Micro Elite have just been presented at the IEEE Conference on Games in Madrid (see https://cog2026.org/acceptedpapers).
I'm a co-author, alongside Michael Fairbank from the University of Essex.
They're a great read! And they are available as free downloads from the University of Essex website, so everyone can enjoy them.
Here are the details.
The first paper is all about the in-game planets, with their glorious rotating craters and meridians (these planetary details are also in the Commodore 64 version, though in that version they are turned off by default).
Fairbank, Michael and Moxon, Mark (2026) The Rotating Planets in the Classic Game: Elite. In: IEEE Conference on Games, 2026-09-01 - 2026-09-04, Madrid. (In Press)
Free download: https://repository.essex.ac.uk/43577/
The second paper explores the epic Saturn loading screen - a mathematical work of art.
Fairbank, Michael and Moxon, Mark (2026) Analysing the Saturn Loading Screen from the Classic Computer Game: Elite. In: IEEE Conference on Games, 2026-09-01 - 2026-09-04, Madrid.
Free download: https://repository.essex.ac.uk/43578/
I hope you enjoy them!

Lave Radio the #EliteDangerous podcast Episode #592!: "Big Skoosh, Wee Skoosh" is now available https://laveradio.com/lave-radio-episode-592/
We’re in Colonia, in the bubble, in a perpetual state of flux and on our way to ECM! -
Thanks for the idea. As i got nothing better to do, i'll visit this list of Stars in Elite: Dangerous with my new Rhino, just for fun&giggles
#gaming #elitedangerous -
Uh oh! I better get a wiggle on to finish this ground port then!
-
Ooh. The Oculus Quest is interesting to me again. I'll have to give this a spin. I miss playing Elite Dangerous in VR.
-
Flying from Colonia back to the bubble in about 1 hour 15 minutes with just 2 refueling stops in the Caspian Explorer couldn't be better, thanks to the Spansh plotter, of course. #EliteDangerous

Povrchová těžba se vrací do Elite Dangerous a inspirace MB4 Mining Machine z původního Frontier: Elite II je víc než zjevná. 😁🪐
Přistát, vyložit stroj, zaparkovat ho na povrchu a těžit suroviny. 🤑

This'll be an interesting view when the settlement is finished!

While pootling back from Colonia I found 3 brand new Water Worlds, but this was my favourite, in Boelts AJ-V b17-9. It was orbiting an L Class star close enough to be cast in it's light and it looked great!

I wonder if I could use that to jump over there?
-
Today I took apart my Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS, both the stick and the throttle. Nasty jumpy drift on both stick yaw and throttle analog stick. Fixed with some alcohol cleaning.
Thank goodness Thrustmaster designed these in a way that you can disassemble them to atoms and put it all back together without breaking anything but your warranty terms. So many people have said that these last for maybe 50 hours, but I'm well over 200 hours in already.

`@ozoned` interviewed me on my home cockpit on a live stream via his #Owncast instance at https://stream.ozoned.net/. This is a more condensed version of the stream that is still just 1h shy. We’re going over almost every feature of my Primary Buffer Panel and I explain how everything works. I also decided to add various photos, slideshows or video snippets during the talk only sections so things don’t get too boring. Sometimes that even complements the talks 😄
Ever wondered how to start your own DIY #homeCockpit / #SimPit on? It’s easy. Just watch this stream 🤓

Tadaaam !

Do you have a #Thrustmaster #warthog #hotas?
Do you keep it out of the box when not in use and dismantled?I Have just the thing for you to protect your #joysticks connections
