I'm in a radio club, a very large one, and nearly all of their stuff is in my care. I just finished setting up the club's first inventory control system in 55 years, and I'm pretty happy about the whole thing. It's not that I am not willing to manage all of our stuff; now someone else could easily take over if I don't want to do it. Without this system, there's no way that could happen.

It's kinda fun acting like a grown-up sometimes.

Holy smokes I'm exhausted.

Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club just wrapped up our 2026 ARRL Field Day, but to me, the final demonstration of just how committed this group is is the teardown. We took down the ~750' antenna array, all three tents (actually Field Hospitals; on load from County EMS), all 25 stations put away, all the Public Information displays taken down, site cleaned, everyone gone.

In under three hours. Unbelievable.

We dedicate about a third of the ground just to Public Information, so if you're curious, there's never been a better time to learn about Ham Radio and what it does for you, whether you are involved or not.

I expect around 100 participants, with over half of those operating radios.

I'm really proud of what this club has built.

QST magazine is meant for ARRL members, but each month one article is free for all. And this month, it's the article on avoiding RFI when running multiple stations, featuring the setup I coordinate with my club, #ConejoValleyAmateurRadioClub, or #CVARC. We were a 23A last year, the largest in the country, and RFI was not a major issue. Its a good read.

What's it about? If you're having interference problems on Field Day, it's because you're ignoring some basic principles. My club's FD is a massive production, biggest there is. We don't have interference problems.

My club had a Winter Field Day picnic today, and while the weather was almost pleasant enough to make us feel guilty, what really impressed me was that 17 people set up portable HF stations.

For a club that many people deride as a "social group", that ain't bad, sport.

Had a GREAT time this evening recording a Ham Radio Workbench podcast, about putting on a large-scale Field Day setup (like the 23A that we pulled off with #CVARC this year). I'll hold off on details until I know more about release dates and so on, but we covered a lot of fun stuff in addition to Field Day.

The Acorn, our local newspaper, had a nice article on CVARC's Field Day...in the first photo, those are phone stations on the right, digital on the left, and CW operators in the next tent in the distance. I try to keep the digital and CW operators separated, because...well, if you know, you know. :wink:

This array is built on the three large masts, covering 10m through 80m each. That layout is repeated 3 times, for Digital modes, phone modes and CW (Morse code). The array is roughly 500 feet long.

6m, plus the VHF and UHF antennas, plus the vertical used for GOTA are within this zone. A long wire is strung around for 160m.

We were able to cover 1.2 GHz to 160M in several modes.

Our antenna array consists of 7 masts spaced about 80 feet apart. Numbers 2, 4, and 6 are 40; tall and have a tri-band beam antenna for 10m, 15m and 20m. Below that are the feed points of 80m and 40m dipoles.

Masts 1, 3, 5 and 7 are 32 feet tall and are used to hold up the ends of the dipoles.

Other bands are placed on tripods within the antenna zone (open only to authorized personnel).

I'll start the Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club (CVARC) Field Day posts with some of the infrastructure we set up. These tents are a vital part of it, on load from the EMS services in our county. Two are used for radio ops, while the third is entirely dedicated to Public Information and visitor info. It's amazing to watch them magically take shape.

The City of Thousand Oaks brings their communications trailer for an airing-out also.

My most intense and fun Field Day ever, as FD coordinator for #CVARC (18A setup this year.) I lost count of the hours weeks ago. Hard to believe it's over now...it will take days to recover from my biggest post-covid effort.

No idea how our QSO tally compares to other clubs (because it's not a contest blah blah blah) but we obliterated our score from last year. I had some ideas for the site plan this year that seemed to work and can be made even better next year.

Sooo many people to thank...

Off for another work session preparing the #FieldDay site for #CVARC. The rules only allow 24 hours for setup, but that's the radio gear. There is so much more with a setup like ours.

Plenty of water, that's the key. I keep telling myself.

Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club's (CVARC)Technician class starting Saturday is up to 25 reservations...incredible. Several members of California's Air National Guard are in the class. It's the most I've ever seen in a single class.

The Ventura County Amateur Radio Club, VCARC, is also in the planning stages of offering license classes. The demand is out there, and all hams should be doing what they can to gets butts into the seats of classes like these!
