We dedicate about a third of the ground just to Public Information, so if you're curious, there's never been a better time to learn about Ham Radio and what it does for you, whether you are involved or not.
I expect around 100 participants, with over half of those operating radios.
I'm really proud of what this club has built.

Had a GREAT time this evening recording a Ham Radio Workbench podcast, about putting on a large-scale Field Day setup (like the 23A that we pulled off with #CVARC this year). I'll hold off on details until I know more about release dates and so on, but we covered a lot of fun stuff in addition to Field Day.
Thanks to George @kj6vu, Vince @VE6LK, Mark @n6mts, and Thomas K4SWL @qrper!

Proud to be part of the Conejo Valley ARC AA6CV putting a 23A station on the air. #hamradio #amateurradio #ARRLFieldDay

Curious about amateur radio, emergency communications, or disaster preparedness?
Stop by to see a demonstration and learn more about radio at Queen Elizabeth Park on Saturday afternoon (south parking lot, near the dog off-leash area and tennis courts)

Ventura County's (CA) preparedness website is featuring #ARRLFieldDay on their front page...take a look 👍

I'm a member of all three clubs listed, and the FD Coordinator for CVARC, frequently the largest operation in the country. Not that I'm bragging. Yeah, not at all. ;)

Every year, local ham radio operators conduct 24-hour “field day” exercises in Hidden Valley, at the Reagan Library, and all across North America. These exercises demonstrate that amateur radio continues to operate even if we lose power and cell service, a key consideration given the need to maintain communications during emergencies.
Field Day is also a lot of fun. Newcomers can learn about ham radio and watch experienced operators try to make as many contacts as possible during the 24-hour drill. With a lot of coaching, I even made two contacts – one in Florida and one in Pennsylvania!

#ARRLFieldDay was a wash this year for me, unfortunately. Couldn't get my HF rig working. We'll see if anyone is yapping on the local 2m and 70cm repeaters tonight, I suppose.

We're doing a lot better since we abandoned Windows/N1MM... Turns out some Windows sound-card driver issue was causing us to miss out on A LOT of signals...
Sound card issues look resolved after switching to Fedora Linux (@fedora).

Here's an idea. Join an #ARRLFieldDay in a full #HazbinHotel Alastor #cosplay in character. I'm not fully sure what to do with this idea other than, it sounds fun or maybe livestream it. Bonus points to have a functioning microphone prop and get membership and licensure in advance.

Notes on Field Day 2023
I wrapped up another field day with my friend Paul (W7PEZ) in Eastern Washington. For the two days, I had 204 contacts, broken out roughly as:
Yes, I worked SSB. It was kinda Frankfurt United Norway

Finally starting to feel good after Field Day. It's always such a physical drain on me and I always take off work the following Monday just to recover.
This year I bought a tent and air mattress so I could get some better rest instead of putting the passenger seat in my car all the way back and "sleeping" there. That helped a lot, but still wasn't quite enough. My problem is I haul so much stuff out there like a 13' x 13' canopy, plastic folding table, a few chairs, radios, vertical antenna and surveyors tripod to mount that on, 100' of coax, lighting (although I reduced that this year), food and drinks, etc., etc. It's quite a major effort for me. For the past several years I've tried to cut down to just the essentials, but when you're getting things together, you think everything is essential.

A pretty cool interview with two of the officers of my regional Sacramento County #ARES group with a bit of publicity for #ARRLFieldDay https://www.capradio.org/news/insight/2023/06/22/role-of-amateur-radio-during-emergencies-goodbye-to-sac-state-president-robert-nelsen-insight-concert-connect/
