"Dr. Wackenstein's last invention was the emergochromic brain wave manifestatitioner. It looked like a neocubist parody of a baseball cap, equipped with wires, silicon circuits, LEDs, and other gadgets. Once you put it on your head and thought about something, a creature, thing, or entity or whatever materialized out of thin air, two arm's lengths in front of you. It would exist for no more than 17.32 seconds, then vaporize, and the microparticles would follow a winding trajectory right into your nostrils and disappear into nothingness. Done. Some test subjects sneezed afterward.
"But then Dr. W decided to test the device on himself and left the controls to his semi-competent assistant. An ugly green dwarf appeared, giggling and saying, "Seventeen-point-three-two? You must be kidding!" It snatched the manifestatitioner off Dr. W's head and used it on itself - and then vanished into the inventor's nose. But right in that moment, Ugluk appeared, a powerful, almost mindless creature, acting unpredictably. But the person who created Ugluk no longer exists, and so there's no nose to take him back - and Ugluk's existence seems to maintain itself until... well, we don't know. We have an overpowered creature designed by a mad something that itself manifested from the fantasies of an evenly mad scientist.""Shouldn't we call the National Guard or the Marines?"
