  6. Streaming algorithms + lazy screenwriting = narrative incoherence. Darby and the Dead and R.I.P.D. 2 expose how modern supernatural comedies trade strict world-building rules for cheap genre tropes and intellectual property necromancy.

  7. Been here a week and not done an #introduction. Soooo, I'm Tim, a senior production #editor at a finance B2B in #london, where I live with my wife and son, and pet #cat Roxy.

I've been an avid #writer of #fiction for years, though not, as yet, seriously published (only a short story here and there). Favoured genres are #ScienceFiction, #horror and alternate history – but I love a mash-up.

More recently, I've been writing #ChildrensBooks ; I have three written but always have a few in development, and I'm working on getting a handful in a fit enough state to start querying agents. Watch this space!

Main interests are #travel #diy #PS4 #GraphicDesign and any #movies that aren't from a cinematic universe. Also, obviously, #books, and #ScreenWriting. Politically I'm a lefty #ProEuropean permanently weeping #Remainer tears. I will probably toot some #politics, but with a CW, naturally.

    Nice to meet you.

  12. New blog post!

    ☆Fade In review☆

Let me just say this: I love Trelby. But I've outgrown it. If you're getting started with screenwriting, start with Trelby. It hasn't updated in years, but it's FOSS and will teach you the essentials.
Fade In sounded like it was going to do more of what I wanted and it's a fraction of the price of Final Dra... blog.bluestarcreations.net/blu

  16. Last month, a Russian jet flew between an American F-16 and a Russian Tu-95, coming within just a few feet of the American jet. However, the unsafe maneuver the pilot made was following Putin’s orders; about half a million Russian soldiers in Ukraine already made that fatal mistake.

  17. Two movies, one problem: trying and failing to make digital value feel real. NFT: Cursed Images turns NFTs into haunted files but can’t make the fear stick. Lift bends logic and morality so far that the “heroes” end up feeling more hollow than clever. Both films highlight a struggle to tell meaningful stories about intangible worlds.

  19. CW: Call for Scripts

    Hello filmmaker friends! 👋 🎬

I'm a freelance producer who has worked on other people's projects in the past, and now I'm looking for a script to produce and direct myself as a portfolio piece. My preference is:

    - Dialogue-led drama or comedy
    - Under 20 pages
    - Easy-to-scout locations
    - Written through the female gaze, with a female or otherwise underrepresented lead

  21. Animation keeps trying to have it both ways: scientific realism + talking-animal emotion—and the seams are showing. The Wild Robot wants believable tech but handwaves biology. Swapped builds a wild evolutionary myth, then plays it safe with a familiar arc. If you’re going full fable, lean in. If you’re invoking science, respect the rules.

  22. Modern Shakespeare adaptations keep trying to “fix” tragedy and end up breaking it. When you strip away the structure, the language, and the logic that give these stories weight, all that’s left is aesthetic imitation. Updating the setting isn’t the problem. Failing to rebuild the architecture is.

  23. When style starts speaking louder than story, something gets lost. Both She Dances and Don't Make Me Go reach for emotional depth through formal tricks but end up undercutting the very connections they’re trying to build.

  24. Body-swap comedies used to be about empathy, now they’re just self-aware gimmicks chasing relevance. From Trading Places to today’s overstuffed knockoffs, the “Freaky Friday flip” has lost its soul somewhere between high-concept messaging and lazy repetition.

  25. Two versions. One idea. A decade of evolution. Amber Alert (2012) was a chaotic found-footage experiment that mistook irritation for tension. Amber Alert (2024) trades that rawness for control—smoother, smarter, but also safer. Same premise. Different priorities.

  26. Star Trek’s journey from thoughtful sci-fi TV to blockbuster cinema is a fascinating trade-off: richer emotions and bigger spectacle at the cost of internal logic. The result? Powerful themes about death, legacy, and humanity held together by scripts that don’t always withstand scrutiny.

  27. From Acrimony to Mea Culpa to Duplicity, Tyler Perry’s thrillers don’t invite interpretation—they define it. Titles explain themselves. Characters announce their psychology. Law, science, and investigation become background props for emotional inevitability.

  28. I'm using the demo version of #FadeIn #software to write my new #screenplay and so far I'm really enjoying it. Very bare bones (in a productive, non-distracting way!) and intuitive. I think I'll be purchasing the full version pretty soon.

  29. “Neither asked nor given…”

Written by Alan Sharp, & directed by Michael Caton-Jones, ROB ROY (1995) is an underappreciated gem of Scottish film. It also contains what is widely regarded as one of the best swordfights in cinema history
