  1. "Die-hard combustion-engine fans may say they'll only accept EVs 'over my dead body.' Well, here you go."

    Well played, Car and Driver.

  2. Happy new #lightRail day! Waiting in a massive line at Judkins Park to board the #2line from #Seattle to #Redmond. So many people and organizations are here. Awesome spirit. #urbanism #transit #SoundTransit #publictransport

  3. I picked up a 1998-era, floppy diskette-based, Sony Mavica digital camera recently. Today, I took it to the #UWCherryBlossom trees for the first time. Filled an entire 3.5" disk with shots like these.

  4. New #decentralized toy of the day: bought my first #Meshcore radio, about $30 with an enclosure and a battery (though the battery doesn't fit in the enclosure, strangely). As an #IRC veteran, it's fun to see relay chat that doesn't involve the Internet. True #peerToPeer networking. This could be fun.

  5. Say what you will about corporate-backed voter initiatives, but I’m glad that #Rivian is supporting a ballot initiative in Washington to allow for direct sales by car manufacturers to consumers. #Tesla is the only company allowed to do this in #WA; Rivian and #Lucid can’t sell an #EV directly from their showrooms or offer test drives.

  8. Seattle's proposition 2, revising the city's business and occupation (B&O) tax, won by a wide margin. #seaElex #waElex #seattle #SeaElection #electionViz #dataviz

  10. In Seattle City Council's city-wide Position 8, incumbent Alexis Mercedes Rinck defeated challenger Rachael Savage by a more than 4:1 margin. Savage won in only 8 of Seattle's 1019 precincts. #seaElex #waElex #seattle #SeaElection #electionViz #dataviz

  14. Disclosure: I provided analytical assistance to the Wilson campaign, although I did not donate money to the campaign and I did not actively solicit votes from the public. #seaElex #waElex #seattle #SeaElection #electionViz #dataviz

  15. Legendary #Seattle sandwich shop #Salumi cannot take online orders or provide rewards points today, due to the #AWSoutage. Still serving, though. #sev2 #meatOps

  16. This year, the #PortlandRetroGamingExpo’s venue, the Oregon Convention Center, is also the site of one of #Portland’s #NoKings protests. If you have tickets, be flexible and patient today! #prge #PRGE2025

  17. Looking forward to attending @ProjectJupyter 's #jupytercon2025 in November in #SanDiego. I'm excited to meet more of the #Jupyter developers I worked with during my most recent job, most of whom I've never seen in person.

  18. This is probably the most #coding I’ve done since starting my #careerBreak almost 4 months ago, and I did so via #raspberryPiConnect on an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard. Didn’t work great; Safari kept interrupting the connection in the tab that had my remote terminal session.

  19. @davidnjoku One way I’ve found to counter #EV #rangeAnxiety is to look at the miles, not the percent, and think about how far you can go. I was mildly panicking when my car hit 25% for the first time, but the guess-o-meter said I could go 75 miles, and at the time, I was 25 miles from home.

  20. #Ballard has a new #carsharing option, before #GIGCarShare has even left #Seattle. #ZEV is renting a #ChevyBolt #EV by the hour or the day. It lives at Town & Country Market, on the side. zev.coop/

  21. @deanbetz I had a similar list to you and ended up with a used #BoltEV. Realistic range is ~250 miles, but I’m planning some 300+ mile trips, and chargers are plentiful in the West, I hope. Hoping to read some good books while I wait for its slow “fast” charger, too.

  22. The #BallardBridge has been stuck open for half an hour, with no other ship canal crossings for miles. We really need to stop relying on drawbridges as critical infrastructure. #Seattle #Ballard #urbanDesign #urbanism

  23. Announcing the first Jupyter Executive Council, Software Steering Council, and a new governance structure. (In addition to my work visualizing elections, I now tabulate them, too.)
