Why is it that almost all pictures showing "cyclists" in Seattle show people wearing helmets and riding road or hybrid bikes instead of those riding cargo e-bikes carrying children on the back?

(1) The bike came with the same crankset with longer (165mm) crank arms.

I received a response from King County Parks to my request for more information and to find a suitable detour regarding the upcoming East Lake Sammamish Trail closure from May thru late fall. Unfortunately, it’s not looking good.

For context, this trail closure means that the only way one could bike between Issaquah and Redmond is around the west side of Lake Sammamish or climbing into the city of Sammamish for most of the year

Lime carried record 57,000 trips the day of the Seahawks parade, on par with daily traffic over the Aurora Bridge

"Lime riders took more than 57,000 trips February 11, the day of the Seahawks parade downtown. After adding Bird’s 2,100 rides, the 59,300 total of shared bike and scooter rides was on par with the average daily traffic across the Aurora Bridge."

As you know, I live (and make maps) up here; the gate you’re talking about, even if closed, does NOT block bike access to 178th. Your suggested detour is valid.

Shorter versions exist if they aren’t closing to exactly 175th. If they are not, then going west on 175th then taking the bike path access down to the trail and continuing south is somewhat better.

(Also, the connector on the south side of 175th is guaranteed to be open, so if you're northbound on Sammamish River then I would definitely use that. If southbound, it depends.)

Went on a bike ride for a haircut and to test out the route (uses the entire Georgetown to Downtown Safety Project) for a celebration bike ride in the Duwamish Valley coming this Sunday with Seattle Neighborhood Greenways, SDOT, and Cascade Bicycle Club. It feels so good to be able to ride my bike again!

Today I rented a bicycle and attempted to bike the Yamanote Line which has 30 stations and runs in a loop around central Tokyo. While I was up for the challenge and actually succeeded, I ended up visiting parts of the city that I wouldn’t have otherwise seen along the way. While there’s a lot to be desired from Tokyo’s bike infrastructure, it was an incredible way to experience the city.

Seattle DOT director Greg Spotts notes the need to think about streets along the edge of a park and whether they support the park's purpose. By turning a fast, noisy slip lane that slingshots drivers into Green Lake into a barrier-protected 2-way bike lane, the change reduced noise and the traffic effect of SR99 at that spot. Much more parklike.

Yesterday and today I'm on a tour for state legislators highlighting the Safe System Approach. We're in Seattle looking at the protected 2-way bike lane on Green Lake that repurposed a parking lane. One segment converted a 2-way street to 1-way, which eliminated drivers blasting through here like it's a racetrack. Includes a segment on SR99 that closes a gap.
