Darializa Avila Chevalier, a PhD student, aka "DAC" has defeated 10-year incumbent Adriano Espaillat, Chair of the Hispanic Caucus, who had been in elected office since 1997.
This is a far far bigger upset than Zohran (an elected official) defeating Cuomo (a scandal-tarred candidate who already had to resign).

The ‘Left’ has had a fine evening in #NYC with #DSA candidates winning multiple races. #AIPAC was a loser. I know these urban districts are progressive bastions, but I do take some satisfaction from the victories nonetheless. And also some optimism that educating, organizing and mobilizing the electorate will pay dividends in the mid-terms. Ya gotta be able to hope🙏 #NYCPol #USPol #USPolitics

Voters can select 2 candidates. I'm still recommending Edmond Wong. And, for harm reduction, I plan to vote for Edward Irizarry, too.

This morning I got the idea of running a live "Um Actually" game about the most unbearably picayune bits of #NewYorkCity politics trivia from the last ~2-4 years.
Getting to gotcha people on #nycpol stuff like "Um, actually, Jessica Ramos never actually dropped out of the 2025 mayoral race!" and "Um, actually, at the time she handed the potato chip bag to Katie Honan, Winnie Greco had no formal position in Eric Adams's administration!"
Maybe for some festive occasion.
