On my way back from the #BoltEV event and at my Sacramento hotel, I ordered the healthy burger option (Beyond vegan burger with fresh fruit).
The problem is that until two weeks ago, I was harvesting my own blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and apples. And mine (home grown) were by far, better.
Yes, I a food snob!

@sullybiker @onepict That’s why I disconnected the OnStar antenna in my Chevy #BoltEV and slapped a dummy load on the transceiver. Nothing’s getting in or out. Of course, I never paid for OnStar and my LexisNexis report came back empty, but it never hurts to go for the belt and suspenders approach.

So what do they do when the IRA passes and people can get $7,500 in Biden Bucks for a new EV? Kill the Bolt, and start making bigger, more expensive cars. Now, instead of spending $22,500 (let’s say) on a Bolt, you can spend $45,000 or more on an Equinox.
Oh, and they axed Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you get to set up all your apps again on their first-generation hardware that may require a $30/month OnStar subscription for all features, that will phone home to GM who sells your driving history to insurance companies — and I bet they’ll throw in your podcast subscriptions, music app names, and how many times you go to McDonald’s for a Shamrock Shake in one month.
But it’s the buyers who are wrong.

@nico My Chevy #BoltEV and I live in an apartment for now, so I can only do Level 1 AC charging (120V x 12A = 1.4 kW). It’s painful, but good enough given I work from home.
Some local car dealerships have DCFC at very reasonable prices, so if it’s really low, I’ll just drive it out there for an hour or so.

So I did a thing and bought a car yesterday. I’m on my second lease, and this one ends in 3 months. I’m a bit sad about letting go of my #BoltEV. It was my first #EV, and overall it’s been a good car. Tomorrow I’ll be coming home with my #MustangMachE. After 6 years of leasing I’m looking forward to owning a car again.

I’ve got to hand it to GM’s #BoltEV engineering team — and a little luck. I was on the receiving end of a three-car pileup last night and suffered no damage besides my bumper. Not even a scratch on the unibody.
Kids, don’t take your eyes off the road.

@arstechnica Yeah, that’s what I hate about my #BoltEV. I stopped at a fast charger on a cold morning and could only pull 17 kW. That’s not a typo.
I did take it on a summer road trip, though, and 50-54 kW was manageable. I made more, shorter fast-charges to cut down on time.

@LokiTheCat I agree with the software diagnostic, but this is a possible hazard to life and property. The March 2025 “out” for GM needs to be removed. Is that really cheaper than the bad press that’d come from another vehicle fire?
That being said, I have a 2019 #BoltEV with a replacement battery that can hold more electrons than the factory one, and I couldn’t be happier. (Plus, I have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.)

1. It's easier to maintain

4. It keeps its value
5. Owning a home makes it a lot easier1. It's easier to maintain -
They recommend an undercarriage wash once per month, and I should probably change the cabin air filter soon..
The good:
The brakes don't wear out because they're almost never used.
There's very little recommended scheduled maintenance.
There are very few moving parts to wear out in the motor compared to an ICE so you don't have to go to the shop unexpectedlyThe bad:
Registration costs more. But to be fair I don't pay the per gallon usage tax placed on gasoline sales and my car puts more wear on the road, being heavier and all.Also there was a battery recall which left us with 2 cars that they said not to park within fifty feet of any structure. Like, how would I ever charge my car then? In the end though they replaced the batteries with bigger, better, -won't catch fire- batteries, so I'm happy now. Came with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty just like it was new too.
2. It's cheaper to drive -
I charge at home. I installed my own charger, the purchase of which was subsidized by my electric company. I actually bought the charger before I bought the car feeling kind of like when you buy plane tickets and then you HAVE to figure out that trip‽ So I didn't spend a lot to get my house ready for driving electric.
I think a full charge at home costs about 6 or 7 dollars US, vs $5 for a gallon of gas. A full charge gets between 200 and 250 miles in most cases, putting energy cost at 2.4-3.5¢ per mile. My last car got about 25 miles per gallon, at $5 each that's 20¢ a mile just for fuel. Combine that with the decreased need for EV maintenance and my biggest operating expense is probably for tires.
It does like more expensive tires and it's harder on them being so heavy with the battery and having so much torque.3. It's more fun to drive -
It always has available torque. You don't really know what that means until you feel it but it responds immediately when you push. There are no valves that need to allow fuel into a chamber. There is no transmission that needs to drop gears. The motor pushes when you push it. It goes on demand in proportion to how much is demanded of it.
One pedal driving is awesome. I love it. In L mode (dumb name) I can let off the accelerator and it will completely stop the car. I don't need to reach for the brake in stop and go traffic anymore unless something crazy happens. This reduces stress by a lot. Like. SO much. My wife still likes to drive her car "regular style" so it coasts faster down hills and lurches forward if you don't hold the brake at a stop light, just like a regular car.
4. It keeps its value -
I just looked up the value of my car. I've owned it for 3 years and I've driven it 25k miles. It only lost about $3000, or 15% of its value since I bought it. Or more precisely, if I sold it now I should expect to get $3000 less than I paid for it.
I paid more for this car than any other car I've owned. Partly because I could afford it now, partly because I really liked the car, and mostly to stop buying gasoline. I won't pretend it wasn't expensive but used Bolts are some of the best and cheapest used EVs around, I think. They have great range but fast charging is slower on a Bolt than almost anything else available, TBH.
5. Owning a home makes it a lot easier -
I was able to install my charger cheaply and I have a secure place to charge every night. These facts really helped this make sense for me. I have to assume that living in an urban area would be more challenging for EV ownership if you can't get charging where you park, for example.

I’m attending a friend’s wedding this weekend, and we decided to splurge and get a hotel room even though we’re somewhat close to home. GM/Chevy is replacing the #BoltEV and #BoltEUV with the Blazer EV and Equinox EV, which are on the new ultium platform and not the BEV2 platform which was VERY long in the tooth. This is what they said they would do.
They will be bigger and more normal-looking which is pretty much what everyone surveyed has said they needed if they were gonna be convinced to seriously consider an EV as their next vehicle.
I am getting so tired of weird pearl clutching articles trying to get in on that "GM is killing the electric car!" hype from the 90s. The entire thing GM was trying to do is make a boring, small, cheap car that happened to be electric the next version will be better than that and the Buick Electra and Cadillac Lyriq are gonna Right There if someone wants to show off, just like the ELR was when the Volt came out.

I don't charge the Bolt to 100% often but it's been a year since GM upgraded it to a 66 kWh battery, so I thought I'd check the range. Still looks great, 340-401 miles.
The most recent battery research I've seen indicates EV battery lifetimes are likely in the 10-20 year range. We don't use fast chargers, so that puts us at the high end of that range

We have a #BoltEV with CarPay, couldn’t imagine buying another car without it.
If they were just dropping support for CarPlay and Android Auto, that’d be bad enough. But the fact that they are doing that and plan on using Google’s platform to spy on drivers makes this even worse. Imagine spending tens of thousands of dollars on a car and then still having to give up your privacy.

It's what #Moms do..... Except the alcohol part 🤣🤣🤣
