  1. Katie Wilson’s Transition Team Features Mix of Advocates and Insiders

It won't be an easy breezy journey, but I trust her judgment in choosing the best possible talent for her transition team. Go Katie!

  2. Wilson Defeats Harrell

"Many reasons exist for the progressive shift, from stronger candidates and messaging to Trump backlash to rising economic anxieties to voter frustration from centrists leading differently than they promised during their previous campaigns. Plenty of time remains to conduct postmortems on moribund centrist campaigns and voter motivation."

For now, I will celebrate these results.

  4. Beleaguered Bainbridge Island Affordable Housing Project Hits Another Snag

"In an interview conducted in August, well before the appeal was filed, Janow told The Urbanist that she thought a project like 625 Winslow was too big for a city of Bainbridge Island’s size, and that the city should be focused on smaller-scale affordable housing projects."

Haven't we heard all that before? Anti-housing NIMBY neighbours making it sound like a valid concern, trying (in vain) to their ulterior motive of keeping their rich and white neighbourhoods intact. Makes my blood boil.

  5. Op-Ed: Closing Seattle Schools Is Still a Bad Idea

"Rankin’s memo and the sweeping austerity that it floats ought to become a central topic of discussion and debate during the hiring of a new superintendent, as well as in the fall school board election campaigns. Candidates should be asked whether they would support or oppose a new school closure effort or 'strategic abandonment' of district programs and services."

  6. DoorDash slams Seattle over driver deactivation law, adds new service fees

I've never used third-party delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats, and based on this article, I will most probably never do.

  7. #Seattle City Council was unable to appoint key members to #housing committees yesterday, because two councilmembers just didn't show up. If councilmembers not showing up to work bothers you, send a letter. actionnetwork.org/letters/vote

  8. Harrell Chops Off Dozens of City Blocks from Planned Growth Centers

    Harrell has GOT to go.

"Unfortunately, nearly a decade after the station was approved by regional voters in the Sound Transit 3 ballot measure, Pinehurst/Haller Lake still hasn’t seen a rezone, and the scope of the plan just shrunk, apparently. The continued rezoning delay has also elicited criticism from Sound Transit Board members like David Baker — who has since left the board after losing his Kenmore City Council seat — arguing the region has invested too much in stations for the surrounding land to be squandered and left to low-density uses."

  10. Don’t underestimate Katie Wilson

"Both Transportation for Washington (the politically-active sister organization to Transportation Choices Coalition) and Washington Bikes (the politically active sister org to Cascade Bicycle Club) endorsed Bruce Harrell this week. "

I cancelled my Cascade Bicycle Club membership when Washington Bikes endorsed Harrell last time. In a way, it's no surprise that they back Harrell again. But Transportation for Washington, too?

I'm afraid my list of advocacy organizations to support keeps shrinking.

  11. City of Seattle Prevails Against Housing Growth Plan Appeals

So most of the (NIMBY) neighbourhood groups who appealed One Seattle Plan didn't bother to comment on the EIS. That speaks volume of their nature.

  12. You lie. You enter a private property illegally. You pressure a homeowner to put it in writing not to remove a tree when selling the property. All is justified in order to save a tree. Right? Right?

  13. This makes perfect sense.

"By converting 120,000 of the city’s more than 500,000 on-street parking spaces, Seattle could meet its 30% tree canopy goal and distribute new trees equitably across the city. Today, Seattle’s wealthier neighborhoods have much more tree cover than poorer, more diverse areas."

  14. Those NIMBY neighbours would get a bit more respect from me if they were honest about the reasons they opposed the One Seattle Comp Plan: "We want nothing but single-family homes in our neighbourhoods because we want to remain exclusively white and wealthy."

  15. I am happy to see Prop 1A passing with a good margin. It means people in Seattle are not only big on social housing, but also willing to tax the rich to help redistribute wealth. CM Sara Nelson and her conservative cronies can go to... Texas? 😅

  18. A new race in King County is sizing up after current Executive Dow Constantine announced he's not running again. When people say stand up when the status quo needs changing, we look for young progressive energy. I've already sent support to @GirmayZahilay who is extremely well organized. 19. A ray of hope for Seattle. Alex Rinck is comfortably leading Tanya Woo for the Seettle City Council Position 8.

The article calls Woo a "centrist Democrat." If that's true, it tells me a whole lot about the fundamental issue the Democratic Party has today. In my book, a person who "wants to continue investing in the city police budget to bolster officer hiring and retention" is a right-winger, at least in the US.
