  1. @elebertus The question would be, what is your use of Strava, online to post trainings or to analyze? #TrainingPeaks maybe?

  2. Yesterday I ran my 2nd 5k event of the year and shaved off over another minute on my time. The course was a bit short at 2.96 miles according to my Garmin and several other runners with their watches confirmed, so I had to estimate my actual 5k time which I estimate would have been about 25:04. Down from 26:17 a month ago.

8:04 average pace, down from 8:30 last month.

2nd in my age group and 10th overall. 68 total entrants.

Tried out a new pizza place after the race to celebrate the good results. Steve's Pizza in Austin Minnesota. One of the better pizza places I've found in the region. Will be returning there in the future for sure.

This concluded an 8 week duathlon training plan I did through TrainingPeaks to get back into racing. I'm taking a week off from structured training to do whatever running and cycling I want, then the following week starts a 20 week duathlon plan with a September 5k race in mind.

  3. I'm so tired and hungry (and sore). Gah, I hate days like this. I'm going to end up going over my calorie target by about 300-400 today I think. I'll still be in a solid 400+ deficit, but days like today make me want to go back to maintenance again.

In other news, I just purchased an 8 week structured #duathlon training plan on #TrainingPeaks. Lined it up with a 5k I am doing in April so it doesn't start until next weekend. I don't plan to do any duathlon or #triathlon events this year, but I want to start getting back into racing 5k’s and I really enjoy riding my bike on the trainer and want to improve there as well. So I figured a duathlon plan was appropriate.

Still going to continue doing my 5-6 days of strength training as programmed by #Fitbod. I know this sounds like a lot, but the volume is largely what I am already doing. Its just that the #running and #cycling will be a bit more structured and intentional now, and there will be more high intensity work as prescribed by the training plan.

  4. huh.
Time to try a new cycling platform, since it's included with my training peaks membership.

  7. First impressions of the new TrainingPeaks integration with Apple Watch. It just feels native which is not the case for other running apps I’ve used. The haptics and spoken instructions work very well. Sync back to TrainingPeaks without third party apps.

  8. Only a week away from when the plan should start, so maybe it's time. Plotting #TrainingPeaks #Running

  9. Likely time to put my training plan into #TrainingPeaks so I can figure out my ramp plans. Winter full training is rough. If fall marathons weren't such a weather question mark I'd not be doing a spring full.

  12. Racing Tomorrow – Bure Valley 10 Mile

Final Grand Prix Race of 2023. Will I end on a high?

Even though it has only been 5 weeks since the Dereham 5k, it seems like months. I guess this is because all of the other 2023 Sportlink Grand Prix races were much closer together (with 3 days being the shortest gap).

So here we are. Tomorrow it’s the turn of the Bure Valley Harriers to host their Bure Valley 10 Mile Race, the 14th, and (sadly) final, Sportlink Grand Prix race of the 2023 season. (It looks like there are still a few places available if you fancy it… you can enter at Total Race Timing.)

Starting and finishing in the North Norfolk village of Banningham, my presumption is that it will be a gently undulating route around the surrounding country roads. If the weather is favourable, I suspect fast times will be the order of the day.

And speaking of the weather, the current forecast is a sunny 16° C, with a moderate breeze. So fingers crossed conditions will be near perfect.

    Predictions

Below is a table of predictions from various algorithms / sources. Note that the Athlete Data Analysis Platform and Running Watch do not provide 10 mile race predictions, and so I have had to derive values from their 10 km and half marathon distance predictions.

    AlgorithmPace (min/km)Time (mm:ss)Difference from fastest (%)Riegel (6 min Assessment)4:3774:17– 11.3 %Riegel (3.2 km Assessment)4:2871:53– 8.4 %Athlete Data Analysis Platform4:2170:00– 5.9 %Running Watch4:1468:07– 3.2 %TrainAsONE4:0766:15– 0.5 %Riegel (5 km Race)4:0666:06–Predictions for tomorrow’s 10 mile road race from a selection of sources. Ordered by increasing velocity.

Given that my last 10 mile race was completed in 66:33 (a personal record), I would have thought that a sub 70 minute time is probable.

Consequently, as has been the case for the whole season, the assessment predictions are suggesting quite a slow (and unlikely?) time for me. And, as has been common, the Athlete Data Analysis Platform and Running Watch are suggesting times somewhere between my expectation and the assessments.

Another 10 mile PB? TrainAsONE thinks so.

At 66:06, the 5 km Riegel prediction is the fastest, with TrainAsONE a close second with a time of 66:15. It is nice to see them concur. It gives faith in their values, and is especially nice as they both predict a personal record time! The game is on!

    Wish me luck!

(I’ll let you know how it goes.)

  18. Another evening spent plugging training plans into #TrainingPeaks
I am maybe 70% done, I dont pay myself enough for this self coaching.
This 46m-63m plan has a number of complex workouts to program. 10 ga, with 6x12s up hill sprints, followed by 8x100 strides. 8l
We shall see if I can swing it.
    Im already getting cold feet.
Edit, I spent another 10 minutes at it, and only have 6 more workouts to build, and while not copy and paste, they are similar enough should only take 10-20 mins

  19. @skipchris @andreazio
Id really love to have some way to write a workout definition in code, and import it into any one of the tools I pay to use, but most of them want to sell me training plans or other features, so they have no interest in facilitating that. #TrainingPeaks has some tools for coaches that help, but since I'm not paying to be a coach I can't use them.
    It's extremely frustrating.

  20. @m750 I like #TrainingPeaks and I heavily use its copy and paste function. my workouts mostly repeats week after weeks, with small modifications and adjustments that I do at the start of each week.

  21. Those that plot their training plans, what's your method for creating those training plans in your app of choice?
Creating my own #TrainingPeaks plan from Faster Road Racing is arduous. I've created 3 weeks of a 12 week plan in two nights.
