  1. Friday #sculling on the Wear 4x Bluewater. Our usual weekday session in a warmer and very humid grey Friday morning. Solid improvement with a dramatic change in the exercise this morning and another 6 seconds off the course time. Next week I think we will be doubling the work, possibly after Monday as it's a long weekend here.

  2. Wednesday easy run with Coxhoe on the run. A warm evening, dry and clear. A bigger group with some loops and diversions but plenty of hills.

  3. Lauf ohne Meer und Möwen, dafür mit Reh im Wald und bester Begleitung. 🦌🏃‍♂️

  4. Tuesday run around Durham just between the showers. Cool and grey morning for a threshold repeat run, harder than it should have been but way better than an early start at work.

  5. Monday morning #sculling on the Wear. Bright cool morning for our normal short weekday session. First morning I've had to resort to long sleeves although I was back down to a tee shirt for the piece.

  6. Friday #sculling on the Wear. A cooler fresher morning on a cleaner river, first mist of the second half of the year. The rain during the week had brought the river back up to near ideal levels. The water no longer smells like it's been still too long. Still in Tee shirt and shorts but cool. No rowing or running this weekend as I'm off south of York for my wife's birthday. Swimming mostly although it looks a little cool.

  7. Wednesday easy run up to Kelloe plantation on a cooler evening between the showers. Very pleasant run in great company with coxhoe on the run.

  8. Tuesday morning run around Durham, just the old bridges this morning. Cool and grey after some decent rain overnight. Finally the river is back above the level of the weir so hopefully the water conditions will improve.

  9. Monday and a gentle recovery UT2 #sculling session. Cooler and grey but dry. No hard work, just focusing on taking the exercises we have been doing into the stroke.

  10. Sunday easy run with Coxhoe on the run. A cooler grey morning with a little rain blowing through. Mostly roads with a detour down the forbidden path. Good company and a coffee at the lamplight.

  11. Taking advantage of a missing crew member with a parkrun sandwich this morning. Cooler on the run down but there is still a lot of heat in the ground, out of the breeze it was still hard going. The usual 4km down 5km back and now some bramble wrangling.

  12. A warm Friday #sculling on the Wear, a good session despite a majority sleep deprived crew. Last night was a little too warm and the bricks of my house seems to have soaked it all up.
Our normal session turning sharp at counts house before the piece.

  13. Ten* bridges across the Wear in Durham in 10km, 7.2km if you ignore the run back. A very warm morning, later than planned due to cat drama over night. A nice morning for a run though my heart rate like the temperature was higher than expected.
*Strictly speaking eleven if you include the kingfisher bridge which crosses old Durham beck opposite the rowing club.

  14. Tuesday threshold run along the Wear, cool air but another beautiful morning. The pace was hard and my legs were really feeling it by the turning point.

  15. Monday #sculling on the Wear, 4x Bluewater. The air temperature was just below 10degrees but a beautiful bright morning. Our normal session and it's starting to come together although I definitely felt heavy legs.

  16. Sunday long run with Coxhoe on the run, this morning the plan was run to Sedgefield and bus back but some of the group decided to run back via Trimdon. I joined them although my legs are questioning that choice at the moment. The hills heading up to Trimdon were hard work. The last 4km involved some walking as my knees were grumbling as they should this being my longest run. Warm with a few showers.

  17. Saturday morning #sculling on the Wear. Cool air but a beautiful sunny morning for the new routine. Warm up, our new exercise back up to elvet (dips, quarter, half, full slide all square blades then back and arms before feathering, half's at increasing rates) then steady back to the pool, repeat before a heads pace piece back up. Our piece almost ended in tragedy for two kayakers on the wrong side of the river at the corner above elvet. Thankfully we stopped in time but it could have ended badly for these guys who had no clue about the rules of the river and no life jackets.
We've also agreed on our plans for the heads and despite the weather and near hypothermia last year we will celebrate December on the Tyne doing Rutherford head.

  18. A beautiful Friday morning for a paddle in a single. Cool air but sunny and clear. We still need a lot more rain but the drop in temperature seems to be reducing the weed. A lot of fish jumping this morning and I saw the otter when heading back to the club. A stream of bubbles, and a glimpse against the bank just between the regatta start and the Durham cow.

  19. Another Wednesday night with Coxhoe on the run, a slightly odd course redirected by a hornets nest. Great fun scrambling up the path to the top edge of the old quarry line. Windy and cool out of the sunshine.

  20. A damp start with light rain and drizzle 🎉 cooler but not cold. A lovely morning for a run along the Wear through Durham. Hopefully we will see a little more rain this week.

  21. Short and punchy outing in the quad this morning warmup down to the pool exercises back up to elvet then trying to take that into an easyrow back to counts house with a final heads pace piece back up and in. Some rain before and after but we stayed dry.
