I just stumbled upon this postcard that I made in the summer of 2020 for META COPY while I was waiting for #ChatGPT to be released.

I used Google’s T5 fine tuned on the NPR corpus.

There was some strange beauty in the way the generated text sounded.

I wasn’t going to back the D&D Traveller project because I’m not particularly happy with the World’s Largest team and I like Mongoose even less, but $350 for four books is ridiculous.

If I wanted to run Traveller more like D&D I’d hack Nimble, but I prefer a Frankenstein made of Classic, T5, and Cepheus anyway.

I rather like #T5 rules, but the whole #Megatraveller thing really annoyed me.

As a result I use an extension of the #GurpsTraveller universe, and, to some extent the #MoongoseTraveller rules.

But #ClassicTraveller is what I grew up with, so that is my home.

I was curious if anyone else ever talks about #Traveller5 on here. At least in the feed connected to my server, no. 😅

I know it’s not the most popular edition, but I really love how its rules for building ships and other equipment at all tech levels.

Anyway, if there are other #T5 fans out there, ping me and I’ll give a follow.

I also love #ClassicTraveller of course.

We recently concluded the first year of teaching Advanced Information Retrieval @elex and want to highlight five projects from the class: https://socialcomplab.github.io/advancedIR-2022-showcase/

The projects are diverse regarding what aspects of information retrieval they cover, the models used, and their domain, such as #Transformers, re-#ranking, #BERT opic, summarization, translation, #Word2Vec, content analysis, #IR pipelines, #T5, #programming languages, misinformation, #sBERT, tokenizers and encoders.

To #backup my family's 2 2TB #MacBook #MacBookPro #MacBookAir #M1 I use #timemachine & 4 Samsung 2B #T5 external SSDs : 2 on each machine for drive failure redundancy. This is not cheap & only ok while space permits & not sufficiently automatic while at home as it requires action to plug in drives to make a backup. Which 8TB #networkattachedstorage #NAS solution for automatic background backup only costs less than 800 € and has simple #redundancy against drive failure? Is #RAID even needed?
