  1. New Quest: Death Station! (Traveller). Silence on the comms. A laboratory adrift. Madness stalks the halls, and you aren’t alone. Can you survive the secrets of the Death Station? What choices will you make? #Traveller #ScienceFiction #Questable #ttrpg questable.app/#/quests/1qVmAci

  2. Version 1.6.285 is now released. Star Systems is a tool to help referees manage campaigns for the Traveller role-playing game or other science-fiction RPGs, such as Cepheus or Stars Without Number. The setting can be imported directly from the TravellerMap or created from scratch, or a combination of both.

  3. I hate Mongoose, but that’s a story for another time. But I have to give them props for dropping a Classic Traveller adventure today.

(The freelancers they hire are cool people who are passionate about Traveller.)

  4. I wasn’t going to back the D&D Traveller project because I’m not particularly happy with the World’s Largest team and I like Mongoose even less, but $350 for four books is ridiculous.

If I wanted to run Traveller more like D&D I’d hack Nimble, but I prefer a Frankenstein made of Classic, T5, and Cepheus anyway.

  5. In trying to explain Traveller to the OSR discord I spent way too much time on this chart.

Short answer: support indie creators there’s awesome stuff in the Cepheus space. And this is the tip of the iceberg.

  6. On a discord, trying to explain Classic Traveller to D&D people:

So Classic Traveller is like Original D&D. It started as 3 small books that give enough to be a game, but with a lot of unanswered questions. So each supplement adds a little something new, either new rules or expanding the setting or both. But instead of making a few supplements and then combining and revising and unifying it to make B/X, you just add hundreds of supplements for 10 years.

  7. Conversation on discord has me thinking about Traveller again. (Still?)

More precisely, ship sizes. I definitely prefer a smaller ship universe. By MT battleships are 500-700k tons. But even mid CT after high guard things like the Azanti is 60k.

But if we go back to where the Kinunir is a Cruiser at 1,200 tons, and a light mercenary cruiser is 800 tons, what size should we cap battleships and carriers?

  8. I’ve been listening to Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks. It definitely feels a bit like a Traveller adventure, he keeps getting knocked from one bad situation to another. Good read so far.

  9. Last weekend I refereed #ClassicTraveller on a little (private) #osr retreat. Sadly the adventure was really bad and I had not enough time to prep another module. The module in question was "The Legend of Sky Raiders". Best CT adventure of all times according to James Maliszewski/Grognardia. If someone knows how he came to that conclusion, let me know. My best guess is childhood memories and nostalgia.

  10. Classic Traveller / Battlestar Galactica Season 1 – Lessons Learned

When I set out to run a game based on Battlestar Galactica, Classic Traveller was my first place to go to find a system that I could use to enable the setting. I'd never run CT, only dreamed about it back in 1978 as I read through the Little Black Books. With no experience, I turned to the Internets for some advice and quickly stumbled onto Chris Kubasik's Tales To Astound blog. From 2015 - 2019, Chris wrote a series of blog posts called "Traveller Out of the Box" outlining his discoveries […]

  11. It wasn't an in depth search, but after 30 minutes or so, I'm shocked to find that nobody did a deck plan of the 1978 Cylon Basestar.

Guess I'm rolling up my sleeves and getting out the old graph paper...

  12. I've read the #Traveller Core Rulebook from 2008 and found it to be very uninspiring and generic.

Though in fairness, the game is over 40 years old, and I guess everything it had that was new and unique for a space setting has also been copied by #StarsWithoutNumber #ScumAndVillany and #Coriolis

  13. @NarrativeEscapes There's been a whole genre emerging that I generally call Space Adventure or "Scoundrels with a Spaceship".

    There's #Traveller , #ScumAndVillany , #StarsWithoutNumber , and #Coriolis , and of course every #StarWars RPG.

It probably goes all back to Han Solo, with Mandalorian and Andor picking up what's already a long running tradition.
