Having recently looked into many sci-fi videogames from the early 90s that I didn't really know about, I feel like I am seeing the influence of #Traveller everywhere.
Traveller and Aliens, with a sprinkling of 60s Star Trek.
Space Truckers and Vietnam War space marines.
Now the original Traveller from 1997 was just rules and mechanics, with no illustrations or lore, so I might be retroactively projecting this aesthetic on it. But was there any sci-fi in this style before that?

New route planner between two systems that will land in the next update to my Star Systems app. Best route uses the fewest jumps, then the shortest total distance. Each jump takes 148 + 6D6 hours (≈ one week). In-system maneuvering flies the main world to the 100D jump point and back at the given thrust. Wilderness refuelling only included if scooping is an option. Times are approximations for planning.

Why import TravellerMap data into an app instead of just using the web version of TravellerMap? Answer: so that you can make it your own. For example as I read about the Borderland I added the Wildeman Cluster region as described in the book.

This is one of multiple I have been writing for the next issue of the Grenzland zine.

A conspiracy theorist (Harlon Szhugivelli) approaches the PCs. He is convinced there is a secret Hiver cabal on the planet, steering the politics of the world for their “tentacly masters from the dark depths of space” (his words). He wants the PCs to uncover evidence so he can send it in to the local newspaper. The man is clearly nuts, but his credits (20kcr) are as good as anyone’s.1. There is no Hiver on the world anywhere, but the inquiries of the players catch the attention of a local criminal organization.
2. There is no Hiver on the world anywhere, but the inquiries of the players catch the attention of a local conspiracy.
3. There is a single Hiver on the world. They are really fed up with all those conspiracy theories. They are an ambassador of art, by the fates!
4. There is a single Hiver on the world, they are the last remnants of a Hiver ambassador ship that came by decades ago and left one of their offspring by mistake. The creature is basically feral, but has found an appropriate niche in the underworks of the human colony on this world.
5. There is a single Hiver on the world, they have been found by people who knew what it was and brought up in a human family. Due to various circumstances the hiver can now be found loitering together with other teenage recalcitrants.
6. There is an actual Hiver conspiracy on this world. It’s shadowy masters are using their skill in manipulation to have Kevin become the most common name for newborns for unfathomable reason.Rate this:

This by the way is a great listen. I did get to listen to it today while driving around. It’s really well done. It’s especially pertinent for space GMs and traveller GMs. Since company planets are so common. It will help give explicit terminology and form to what you know intuitively from consuming the media.
