Stuff I found while rummaging for those potato digger clamps.
I'm not sure what I found more of here, axes or pitchforks.
-
Haven't had treasure in a while but today I was hiding from rain showers and had time to rummage in a yet unexplored place.
Look what an amazing wonder healing device I've found! From Switzerland (doubt it). Wait, it's actually just a regular old incandescent light bulb in a sci-fi shaped plastic handle. What a scam.
Next another locker full of old clothes, handbags, etc. I'll sort these in winter. The flannel shirts might get used.
And in the drawer below, a Scottish bear, far from home. Quite dirty and the mice had a nibble but didn't like his stuffing. I think his name might be Haggis. He's even got bagpipes.
Also Pik-Nik the weird processed cheese guy. Both in need of a wash.

💎 And the second song that came to mind is “HELLO” by TREASURE. (And belated congratulations on their 6th anniversary 💙)

A remnant giant from the ancient forest.
I walk the forest paths. Often these are just deer trails my dogs have found. Sometimes there are treasures on these trails.
This is the largest “wild” (not protected, not in a park or other set-aside) tree I’ve ever found. It’s a mystery to me why this giant was left standing when neighbours were felled. That was 100 years ago, so no one to ask. Instead of knowing, I stand in awe.
This tree may be 700-1000 years old. Rare for Douglas Firs in this region. -
Back home and the jungle had grown dense while we were gone. Went about cutting it back until the mower discovered one of the old man's treasures: another cow mooring post, sticking its top hoop out enough to catch the mowing deck, which is now bent again in the same spot.
Levered it out and put it with the others. Need to fix the deck (again) before mowing further.
In better news, the pumpkins have decided to finally make flowers while we were away. So we'll have lots of that. Still not sure which type as we've sown both Hokkaido and Butternut Squash together.

Took another two loads of junk from the shed in the valley today.
That gave me access to the Mayfarth Dreschmaschine (threshing machine) and I could drag it forward a little.
Sadly the other side does not look so good, the wood has rotten away as it sat under another leak from the roof.
But the threshing wheel itself still spins smoothly on its axle and the wood that has soaked up bearing grease did not rot.
There's also some long tubs down there, one mounted on some sort of skids with a chain for pulling. Not sure what that was about. Perhaps hauling firewood in winter, but these skids wouldn't work that well without upwards curved front ends.
The tub might be for soaking wood in something. Currently in a puddle of mosquito infested rainwater :-P

Been down in the valley collecting some treasures and re-supporting the crumbling shack roof.
I want it to last long enough to clear out the stuff inside. Especially that horse engine thresher you can see lurking in the back there.
Today I just hauled up these tyres and a load of scrap wood.
One tyre was incredibly heavy. I thought it had been filled with concrete or something until I realized it had wheel weights installed. Nice bonus!
I actually have a match for that one. One tyre is meh, two matching tyres are useful.
A maple that was half fallen already got turned into a roof support and wedged into place with a lot of huffing and puffing. Should do for another while. As you can see, not the first patch on this shack.

Had to coerce our Archivist into updating our website. I mean, I say coerce, but it was a plate of cookies and a glass of milk. Simple food that it can get its tentacles and gums round.
Here’s the updated website: https://bookhouse.uk

Today's weather was a series of rain showers ranging from drizzle to deafening.
So there's a frustrating lack of progress on my projects.
Started tidying up in the attic a little, which is still pretty much untouched from the previous owner and whomever he was once housing there.
He kept every little bit of every job ever done on the house. Every wall panel offcut, no matter how small, every scrap of rockwool, every piece of wood, heater tile and broken window panel, old furniture, bits of cardboard and tar paper and so on.
There's also the odd treasure, like this spinning wheel, which is a little worm eaten but after freeing it from the remains of a nylon sock, it appears to be working fine.

Temporarily blocked from export- but if museum can't come up with £18,000 *each*, they'll still vanish overseas to goodness knows where...
It's often not about museums 'wanting' finds, it's about being able to 'afford' them...

like money draws the rich,
like war brings out the bombs,
like feces draws the flies.
Like power draws the cruel,
like wounds invite the salt,
like fear locks up the heart,
like greed learns how to steal.
The sun heats up the road,
the ditch begins to writhe,
the grass hides what it knows,
the stones remember blood.
A shadow slides under the fence,
a tongue divides the air,
a sermon without words,
a warning writ in scales.
The just open their doors,
the unjust oil their guns,
the children learn the rules,
the dogs refuse the crumbs.
The heat brings out the snakes,
and some of them have hands,
and some of them wear suits,
and some of them say prayers.
So I learn to watch the ground,
I learn to trust the dirt,
I learn where mercy coils,
I learn when avarice strikes.
