We were thrilled when TUBI offered 2015's "SAMURAI COP 2" for our viewing pleasure. The Riffed version of 1991's "SAMURAI COP" has long been a favorite, and the sequel not only features superb actor Joe Estevez but adds auteur Tommy Wiseau to the cast! #riffed #rifftrax #wetheriffed #authorzachariahsmith #riffing #samuraicop #joeestevez #tommywiseau #action #adventure #actionadventure #cop #cops #copmovie #copmovies #Psychotronic #psychotronicmovie #psychotronicmovies #psychotronicfilm

I had this odd realization during my post-writers group smoke break today.
I think I – as well as my system as a whole – approach making art the same way that jazz musicians play music. I was thinking about this because the piece I ended up writing today in group pulled heavily from “My Island” and yet putting an entirely different spin on it, and it got me thinking about all of the different times that I’ve done that while making music especially.
And honestly, if I had to sum up my approach to just about everything in life, I would say that I approach most of my crafts like a jazz musician even though I don’t technically play jazz. I don’t believe in just one final product or making a recording or a piece the be all, end all. A single song can inspire me for over ten years and I’ll keep coming back to it lyrically, musically, poetically, even, in a sort of self-referential game of call and response, making something new with each iteration and reexamination.
In the process, I’m building a recursive universe the longer I make content and art.
I fucking love jazz.

Just watched one of the most recent #RiffTrax - "Champagne and Bullets" (1993).
I don't know anything about the guy behind the original movie, which stinks, but it was a vanity project, written, produced, directed, edited by, starring, and even featuring songs written and sung by him. And he is a fellow who absolutely, positively was not capable of doing any of those things.
My partner brought out one of her favourite sayings in these types of situations: "Oh, to have the confidence of a mediocre white man."
Makes a good RiffTrax, though.

Still whiling away time on fooling around with the Yamaha Clainova CVP-50 I found in a neighbors trash. Quickly found I can have a rather simple piece of music play by essentially setting up a sequencer, selecting a rhythm to go along with it #, #and #riffing #along, #adding #flourishes #and #random #effects. #Effects #include #5-6 #revedb #settings, #a #chorus #setting #and #quite #a #few #other #selections. #And #besides #the #rhythm #settings #builtin #in, #you # #can #build #your #own #presets #and #record #them #to #as #far #as #I #can #the, #the #floppy #drive #in #the #control #panel. #Yeah, #floppy #drive. #After #all #the #CVP-50 #came #out #in #1989.

My thoughts on everyone eulogizing twitter right now: met some incredibly cool people, got too stressed out about news, learned things cursed things, but my main takeaway and the thing that made me happy, Dad jokes.
“I’m sorry I killed twitter, Sir.”
