NOTE! Mac users who edit video:
If you try to play any video with > 60fps on your desktop Quicktime Player, it automatically defaults to playing it slowed down!
It took me an hour to figure this out. Well done Apple. 🤦♂️

Mine was (as an end-user) a groovy little Macintosh game called Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Transinium Challenge. It's on archive.org, although I think maybe only the (honestly not as good) PC version. Haven't checked in a while. I have a copy of it somewhere on a disk image. The about window says it was written in MacForth.
It even had little monochrome (silent) "video" clips a couple years before #QuickTime was even a thing. All on a Mac Plus or SE. Groovy stuff.

For an upcoming video/stream, I am looking into video editing as a #screenReader user. I'd like to cover both #mac and #windows and am curious what solutions have worked well for people in the past.
Conditions are no mouse usage at all, app needs to be screenreader-compatible, ideally somewhat full-featured both for #audio and #video.

Have you ever thought about how amazing modern #video #compression is?
When #QuickTime came out in 1991, the video codecs didn't save you much space, and were very primitive. You could see the (temporally) repeating blocks very obviously, and they didn't have a lot of finesse.
Cinepak was the first one that had some real compression muscle, then Intel Indeo and others.
I've got a 113-second, 720x1600 video that SHOULD take up 21GB of data raw, but easily compresses down to 16MB, and I can hardly tell the difference.
That's 1360:1 savings!

TIL: JPEG-2000 uses the same container than MPEG-4, which is basically the son of QuickTime. Which means when it is actually embedded inside a QuickTime stream, there seems to a magical 8 byte prefix, which needs to be stripped to get a valid JPEG-2000 file. Long story short, my QuickDraw viewer should now handle JPEG-2000 data embedded inside QuickTime containers.
