Turns out the problem was caused by lag: as the relevant libraries are on old fashioned #external #hdd drives.

Apple chyba uznało, że AI przejmuje drobne formy wideo w social mediach i oferowanie ludziom czegoś, co pozwoliłoby im tworzyć krótkie klipy straciło sens. Aplikacja Clips została zdjęta z App Store.

Uruchomiona w 2017 roku aplikacja, mająca być odpowiedzią firmy na rosnącą popularność krótkich form wideo, została usunięta z App Store dla nowych użytkowników i nie będzie już dalej rozwijana. To symboliczny koniec projektu, który nigdy nie zdołał nawiązać realnej walki z takimi gigantami jak TikTok i z oczywistych względów nie jest w stanie nawiązać walki z AI do generowania wideo.

Co dalej z Clips i projektami użytkowników?

Aplikacja Clips pozwalała na tworzenie krótkich, kreatywnych klipów wideo, łącząc nagrania z efektami, filtrami, animowanymi napisami, Memoji itp. Jak informuje Apple w nowym dokumencie wsparcia, program nie jest już dostępny do pobrania dla nowych osób.

Dotychczasowi użytkownicy wciąż mogą z niego korzystać i pobrać go ponownie z historii swoich zakupów, jednak firma nie gwarantuje jego dalszego działania w przyszłych wersjach systemu iOS. Apple udostępniło również instrukcje, jak wyeksportować istniejące projekty do biblioteki zdjęć.

Niepewna przyszłość iMovie i innych aplikacji

Decyzja o zamknięciu Clips rzuca cień na przyszłość innych aplikacji kreatywnych Apple. Dziennikarze z branżowych serwisów, takich jak 9to5Mac i MacRumors, zwracają uwagę, że iMovie na iOS nie otrzymało żadnych znaczących nowości od 2023 roku, a ostatnia aktualizacja z grudnia 2024 roku zawierała jedynie poprawki błędów. Podobny zastój dotyczy pakietu biurowego iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), który ostatni raz był aktualizowany w kwietniu 2025 roku. Rodzi to pytania o strategię firmy wobec oprogramowania skierowanego do konsumentów, które nie generuje bezpośrednich przychodów.
