I was doing a Recent Searches menu for my AppKit Search Field... The API is a bit odd... very un-AppKit... but I found this super helpful doc. Of course it is the Documentation Archive Apple still has up...

But this was initially published in 2003!!! The API is pretty much the same for at least 23 years now!!! 🤯

In #MacOSX Panther, first-party apps had this very cool style for the landing page of their Help Books. However, it was just an image with click-links mapped to their exact coordinates.

I am recreating this style for my next macOS app right now but I am doing it all via HTML/CSS (no static images with mapped clickable sections). [1st pic]

I'm excited for this one. 😜

Oh, the Contacts app icon is just a random icon placeholder for now. 😃

I still have my "Dead Letters" CD by #Finnish band, #TheRasmus. It was so cool because it was an "Enhanced CD" and had #QuickTime content.

Despite being released in 2003, #MacOSX wasn't fully supported and you couldn't get the interactive experience. You'd have to browse the folders in the CD like an animal. lol

I used to pop this CD into my clamshell iBook at the time and watch the music video included for "In The Shadows" all the time. Takes me back to 9th grade.

From my iBook G4 today:

I wish Apple would still provide documentation with this level of detail... I mean, look at the start of this index page...

• Bindings in more detail
...
• Troubleshooting (WHAAAT?!)

etc etc.

Just imagine if we had documentation like this today for all of Apple's technologies. Would be so amazing.

First, the Preferences windows for both iMovie and DVD Player in #MacOSX Tiger were just so well-made. Simple and the language flows naturally with the UI controls for options.

Second, those toolbar icons were just so ELITE. _You_ try crafting such beautiful art in (32x32 pixels iirc) such a small space. If you zoom in, they're perfectly pixel-aligned. 😍
