Very useful #TestNumbers (for #UK #IE #USA #CA and #MX ) for testing all kinds of #telephones (from your #mobilephone to #VOIP and even any remaining #landlines) - they provide the same level of tests that #Openreach and other telcos have access to, you can check if #DTMF is working well and that #codecs or poor #network conditions aren't mangling the audio..

finally back to editing the video, and I've now found that FFV1 mostly does not have hardware accelerated encode/decode on Linux yet (ffmpeg shipped major improvements last summer, but ffmpeg is not VLC or Kdenlive)
that's too bad, because it's a lot more space-efficient than HuffYUV, but if my (fairly ancient) laptop chokes on 1080p30 playback due to using the CPU exclusively, I can't use it.

Have you ever encountered VLC unable to play a .mkv file when your machine is plugged into hdmi? I have this .mkv file that will play fine on my MacBook screen, but if I plug an hdmi cable into my MacBook to output to a projector, VLC just shows a black screen, even after restarting VLC.
Thankfully I was able to get what I wanted playing over the projector from a different source and in a different format but I'm still really confused. #VLC #mkv #hdmi #tech #VideoFormats #codecs #mac

* a media player
* a strong supporter of #nonfree #audio #codecs like #AAC or #MP3. It offers adequate, basic support, and that is it.The focus is always going to be on mainly #xiph.org #vorbis things like #flac, #opus, #ogg (to a lesser extent, since vorbis has moved all dev efforts to opus).
acxi will support the others enough to let you translate them to free codecs.

@felix da müsste man Menschen fragen, die Expertise im Bereich #Codecs und #Kompression haben. Auf jeden Fall kann der von #BBB genutzte #VP8 Codec gerade bei niedrigen Übertragungsraten eine deutlich bessere Qualität bieten, als z.B. h264. Leider gibt es für VP8 keine Hardwarebeschleunigung, sodass die Ressourcen der Endgeräte mehr ausgelastet werden.
