Trying #ProjectM again. Which basically is the good old #Winamp #MusicVisualizer.

Is anybody using this live on stage with #Linux?

There used to be a decent GUI frontend to it, but it went down some open source drain. I even had used that live and via screen capture, some minor snippets had ended up in a film that was shown in a movie theater. But that GUI has gone nowadays.

So I have #projectMSDL now, but I don't know how to access a preset directly. I could copy a selection to a different folder and then step through. There's nothing too practical… there's hundreds of presets, some are astounding, most are annoying. There isn't even a command line option to open one specific preset file only.

Since ProjectM is open source, there are many projects using it, such as #VLC, there even is a module for the #vcvRack #synthesizer, yet this also doesn't win a prize in preset selection and it can't show a full screen window.

Ah, I fixed the VLC issue with more packages, because they suddenly showed up in Octopi! That makes me very happy indeed. Can't wait to retrieve my songs from the CDs that I still have (that is a project for another day).

VLC, build vom 07.01.2026 in Devuan daedalus: Wenn ich im Video Pause drücke und dann weiterlaufen lasse, dauert es mehrere Sekunden, bis der Ton wieder synchronisiert ist. Bis dahin stockt der Ton, und ich kann nichts verstehen. Egal welches Videoformat.

Ist das nur mein PC oder ist das „normal“? Der mplayer hat das Problem auf derselben Maschine mit denselben Videos nicht.

Meh, "The Big Lebowski" DVD cannot be deciphered by VLC. Means I'll have to commandeer and actual DVD player to watch it using this method. #vlc

EDIT: Okay, solved it! 🥳 It turns out that the solution was:

Tools > Preferences > Input > Hardware acceleration to "off", then restart VLC

The graphics card was somehow messing up VLC's playback it seems, so switching it off in VLC made it work.

I have VLC on a Linux Mint PC and it won't play WEBM video files properly, there's sound but a blank screen.

The same files on the same PC play totally fine in Celluloid, but not in VLC. Any ideas why VLC is having problems?

Sure the complexity of SoundCloud and ToastTV are not comparable, nevertheless, I can draw parallels such as how much time it took to swap the playback engines of the SoundCloud mobile apps and figure out all the edge cases: more than a year. A YEAR.
In ToastTV I swapped VLC for MPV in ONE HOUR, and then immediately contemplated if I should build a custom player with GStreamer (I did not).
So yea, AI is helpful, AI can provide productivity boosts.

I'm having trouble accessing the UPnP/DLNA media service from my NAS on my Linux PC. Anyone any idea what might be wrong?

➡️ VLC on iPhone can see the UPnP service just fine
➡️ Dolphin, VLC and Kodi on the PC can see the SMB shares of my NAS
➡️ VLC and Kodi on the PC can *not* see the UPnP service

Things I tried that did not make a difference:

➡️ Install VLC from Flathub instead of my distro's RPM package
➡️ Disable IPv6 in the PC's network settings
➡️ Add upnp-client to the allowlist of the PC's firewall
➡️ (Update) Connect PC directly to router instead of through eth switch

Looks like this is in fact a #VLC bug. When I throw either the .ISO, or the .CUE/.BIN (from the #Aaru dump) against VLC, or point it towards the virtual cd/dvd drive where it is mounted it'll have a distorted play. Image overlayed with some green artefacts (intro + menu) and for the main movie the picture (except for a handfull of still frames at random intervals) cutting out entirely.

HOWEVER when I point VLC directly at the "\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO" file it plays it just fine...

Created another dump using #MPF (#redumper) and it has exactly the same hash. So maybe some bug in #VLC?

Maybe I'll try an AARU backup later out of curiosity, but the MakeMKV one should be enough.

J'utilise l'appli mobile pour écouter ma petite sélection de fichiers mp3/ogg (Jamais trouvé mon bonheur parmi les app #Libres dédiées depuis la fin du support d'une excellente dont j'ai oublié le nom) et j'ai ce petit souci : Le lecteur passe à la piste suivante en ignorant les 2 ou 3 dernières secondes de la piste en cours de lecture.

Je suis sûr que c'est un paramètre qui a son réglage, mais je sèche... Une idée ?

#MakeMKV says on both the original and the ISO #MPF created that it is AACS 18 but fails to read the content on the ISO.
When I throw the ISO against #VLC it says it is damaged.
When I mount it with Daemon Tools and point VLC at the virtual drive it just fails to play.

Anyone know how to identify where the error here is (and where I should report it?)

(I don't have a LibreDrive compatible drive here right now. But one is on the way. But as the BEE bit is 0 it probably won't change anything???)
