VLC starts very slowly on Windows 11? It takes ages to appear when you open a file?
Some users reported that the issue could be caused by a security conflict with Windows Defender!Workaround until the bug is fixed:
1. Open this official Microsoft support page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows/Security/Threat-Malware-Protection/virus-and-threat-protection-in-the-windows-security-app
2. Scroll down and click on the blue "Virus & threat protection settings" button;
3. In the Windows Defender window, click on the link manage the settings and add an exception for the plugins.dat cache file in the VLC installation folder (only exclude the specific plugins.dat file!). If you have difficulty reaching this step or the button does not work, go to START → Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions;
4. Backup your VLC settings (if necessary), then close all windows of VLC, and manually quit the application using the context menu if a tray icon or any plugin widget is still visible on the screen;
5. Download an up-to-date version of VLC from the official website of the VideoLAN organization: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
6. Install VLC, overwriting the existing installation;
7. Reboot, start VLC and check whether the delay has improved.Power users: steps 5 to 7 are optional, because VLC also includes a dedicated command line tool (vlc-cache-gen.exe) to regenerate the VLC cache.

Can anyone recommend a good music player app for Android/Linux?
So far I've been using the #VLC media player in F-Droid, which is functional, but the UX isn't great. Particularly when it comes to managing excluded folders to keep non-music audio out of my track list.
Also, I can't seem to edit metadata with it. Eg so I can make all the albums I have in folders actually appear as albums, instead of using playlists to hack around that limitation.

Avec VLC sur un mac, je regarde des films sur un VP. Je cherche le moyen de ne jamais montrer la barre de lecture ni aucunes infos sur ce deuxième écran (VP) et que tout ce qui est réglages et commandes soient uniquement sur l'écran de l'ordi. Je pense qu'il existe des solutions, mais souvent, les explications concernent VLC sur PC et ce n'est pas vraiment foutu pareil. quelqu'un à des idées ?

And before you ask or mention why I shouldn't just use something like #VLC; I know that would work, but I like the idea and experience of using something period-correct like #WinDVD on my tiny XP machine, to really capture that same joy and experience I had in the early 2000s.

I don't buy it; VLC has been slow for years; this isn't a recent development. If the plugin cache is slowing software that I've never installed a plugin on, maybe the software is too bloated.

#ShowTime, le lecteur #video de #Gnome depuis quelques mois, n'est clairement pas encore suffisamment mature pour être un lecteur video par défaut 😞 :
lags réguliers, arrêt de la lecture en cours de route, overlay des contrôles qui ne disparaît pas, plantage en essayant d'ouvrir certains fichiers...
Je fini toujours par revenir à #VLC, #mpv voir même #Totem, l'ancien lecteur par défaut, bien plus stable et efficace.
