  1. Hey y’all. Question for all the sound designer folks out there… what tips, tricks, workflows, or plug-ins have made your life easier?

I’m getting back into sound design with a song I’m working on and honestly, I forgot how much fun this stuff is. Been experimenting with movement, space, textures, transitions, automation, all of it.

I’ve heard of plug-ins that can make sounds feel super immersive and almost “3D” around your head. I know Logic Pro has built-in spatial audio tools and binaural stuff. Curious what y’all are using these days, especially for:
    • Easy automation workflows
    • Creative movement/panning
    • Ambient textures
    • Sound transitions
    • Accessible workflows if any blind producers are on here

I’m doing this project in REAPER right now and just wanna learn from everybody’s setups and experiences.

  2. Hey guys. Curious what methods on Windows y’all are using for this. Let’s say I have a huge library of sound effects on a drive… what are y’all using to sort through everything easily, search by keywords, preview sounds quickly, and still do all the normal copy/paste and file management stuff?

I know about REAPER’s Media Explorer, but I honestly haven’t used it in a long time. Just wondering what else is out there these days, especially anything accessible and fast to navigate.

  7. Discovered this free DAW plugin manager. I've been looking for something like this for a while. I am pleased to say it works really well and clawed back 26GB of space on my internal drive!
It doesn't delete the plugin, but offloads them to another location that you specify (if you like) I moved mine to an external drive. Plugoff stores with them the original location, so you can reverse the process on an individual plugin basis, or in bulk.

  12. Can any #ProAudio #Studio #Production folk speak to the absolute solidity / reliability of #MIDI #SysEx handling in @pipewire? I've got (unresolved) issues with it working with the #Reaper MCU implementation, and I'm playing around with some basic JSFX that I wrote, to control a Roland SRV3030 reverb parameters and it's being decidedly odd (although this may be the fault of the Roland too!)

  17. 🐢 Breaking news: #AI is now the #grim #reaper of outdated kernel code! Instead of fixing bugs, we're just deleting entire subsystems because it's easier than dealing with robot-generated security reports. 🧹 Who needs Ethernet when you can have chaos? 😂

  18. Lesson for China? Iran’s low-cost 358 missile takes out million-dollar US assets

The “drone-killing” success of Iran’s 358 loitering munition, especially against expensive US-made platforms, is attracting attention well beyond…

  20. @keefmarshall For editing, grading, compositing, mastering I use #DaVinciResolve (before that it was Avid MC). 2D/3D animations and VFX are done in my beloved #Blender. GFX elements I do with #GIMP. The visuals of my next project will be done completely on Linux (Fedora/Cinnamon). The only thing I can´t do there is the music itself. #Reaper works great on Linux, but my #NativeInstruments / #Arturia plug-ins can´t be activated, even though they would work with #Yabridge.

  21. It seems I've run into this weird EastWest Opus cut-off bug, where it just decides to not sustain all the notes I play. It's reported at vi-control.net/community/threa and none of the suggested fixes fix it. Super annoying and quite disappointing of such an expensive piece of software.

  22. Hey there #LinuxAudio #Pipewire #ProAudio #Production peeps. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get #qpwgraph to hold on to the names I give my hardware interface ports please?

I can rename them ok, but when I close #Reaper they just go back to 'Capture_AUX0' (etc). I've saved the patchbay but when I reload Reaper they stay default.

Confident that this is user error as this seems like basic functionality, just not sure where to look (is it something to do with 'exclusive'?)

  25. @frigginglorious Which DAW can be adapted to your own wishes and taste like Reaper #DAW? Take a look on the website and in the user forum. There are skins that make #Reaper look like Abelton or Logic.

There are many free skins, addons and scripts for Reaper.

  26. Izotope RX is so inaccessible that I literally can't even get passed the installation screen because nothing reads! Accentize Reviver Pro installs but I can't find it anywhere on my computer, so I had to uninstall it. Basically, the two best tools for the job are completely inaccessible to the blind. i have heard of something called Reaper, which does have accessible plug-ins that work with NVDA (my screen reader) but I have no idea if any of it actually restores frequencies and such. I did, however, receive some general recommendations from Perplexity, and they seem very reasonable, so I will include them here. This is the quick version.

"Summary Table of Frequency Restoration Goals
    Frequency Range
    Importance
    Effect of Restoration
    50–200 Hz
    Adds warmth and fullness
    Restores body and resonance
    200 Hz–1 kHz
    Vocal clarity and timbre
Enhances natural voice and instrument tones
    1–5 kHz
    Presence and articulation
Improves vocal “edge” and attack on piano"

I also found this to be interesting.

    "Practical Considerations

Restoration is a balancing act; too much boost in any range can introduce noise or unnaturality.

Analogue equalizers and cautious digital EQs are well suited to restore missing lows and midrange.

AI spectral recovery tools focus mainly on boosting upper frequencies and “filling in” missing detail but cannot authentically recreate absent low-end.

Listening carefully and comparing before-and-after versions remains the best guide.
Your focus on naturalness and historical authenticity aligns perfectly with this frequency approach: restoring warmth and clarity without over-processing the treble region is key."
