We've seen a lot of progress on both since being acquired by Muse group, and its great to reach more users
but whenever you look at other products by Muse group and how they started free and community friendly, just to then get enshittified... I worry good #FOSS projects are being hijacked without much to do about it

As someone who is barely used to use #MuseScore, #lilypond is a completely different, confusing beast…
Why are the default distances so small, glueing everything together?
What's a score? What's an instrument? What do all these curly braces mean? How much time will I have to spend to read the docs to understand all this?o.o

I started listening to Hello from the Magic Tavern maybe....2-3 weeks ago? And now I'm up to Season 3 Episode 15. (This doesn't seem healthy...)
Anyway, in addition to a bunch of hilarious stuff there's been several magical #music moments
1. Various permutations of the theme song (especially the piano one I think somewhere near the end of Season 1)

Someone already figured out the chords progression of the theme and there isn't much beyond that for a guitar to do.
Usidore's song is probably my favorite of the three, but I haven't made any headway.
For Whipped Rainbow Bowl, I found the progression in a reddit comment.
AND THEN? I TRANSCRIBED THE MELODY INTO #MUSESCORE!
I got the whole thing! (I think!)
It turns out to be pretty easy, since she's singing 1/8th notes pretty much the whole time and also sticking to notes in the chords of that measure.
It might be time to revisit Usidore...

If #MuseScore launches with tiny font for the menus in #ubuntu #linux, launch it from a script that defines these variables:

export QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0
export QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=2.0Why these aren't the default is beyond me.

Currently on a test phase for migrating to #Linux. Looks good so far, but I'm still struggling with my need for #music #notation #software. #MuseScore runs just fine, but MuseHub is not available for Linux. Instead only a limited version is provided which just lets you install the free (okayish) Muse sound fonts (not the really good ones I happened to buy a few months back on Windows). Since MuseScore also doesn't support VST3 plugins, this is a real bummer. #FOSS #opensource (1/2)

It never did unfreeze.
In the 5 minutes it took to make tea, I downloaded and started using #musescore on a laptop running Ubuntu.
Friend of mine uses it constantly and raves about it. I've never tried til now but so far, it seems small and fast. First impression: excellent.

musescore is also a notation program. I used it in one of my projects because finale wouldn't allow the varying bar lengths my composition required.
The cool thing about the musescore notation software is that you can write text files that musescore converts to notation meaning that you can write programs that write text files that musescore can convert to notation.

I once started paying for #MuseScore to be able to download any score from them once that was no longer available for everyone. Back then, I should already have known that biz models progress only in one direction: #Enshittification.

Looking for a great #music #partition #editor for my needs:
- #guitar with both partition and #tablature
- #drums alsoI have spent a lot of time with lilypond/frescobaldi (I prefer the idea of 'coding' the partition) but I struggle to get what I want, it's so frustrating.
I just tried musescore and I already gave up (because moving a note from one string to another, inserting a note between others… are a pain in the a**)
Not sure what I will enjoying using. -
