At #NAMM 2026, I had a chance to hang out with Andy Winston from Yamaha Corporation. We talked Chris Buck's signature #Revstar, the new #Pacifica SC, and we deep dived into the BB/7345 bass (the #BB734 it is on my wishlist, Andy!!! Jast saying... 😅 I do not have the patience for 5 strings! ) and most of all about why this amazing company keeps building more instrument than the price tag says.
Andy's words: "We don't do reissues. You're never gonna see us reissue a 1972." That's the philosophy. Draw from history. Build for tomorrow.

Some of the best conversations at #NAMM happen when you're not looking for them. I noticed a shirt that said "I Support #Musicians" and couldn't help but start talking to Michelle Wolff from the Guitar Center Music Foundation.
What followed was a conversation about #music programs being the first to get cut from school budgets. About 150 grant requests every quarter and only 30 getting fulfilled. About kids who might never discover they were meant to play an instrument. About veterans who could find healing through sound but won't get the chance. And about Michelle's own journey—an #opera major whose voice was taken from her by vocal nodules, who had to rebuild her identity, and who never stopped being a musician.

The concept: matching snowboards and custom guitars built from the same materials—including Burton's actual snowboard core.
William put it simply: "The body of this guitar is actually made out of the core material as well—it's pretty sweet, light, durable wood."
Vermont figured mahogany. Alakazam powder board curves in the design. Snowflake inlays inspired by Snowflake Bentley's historic photography.
Two crafts. One philosophy. Wood, precision, and riding your own line.

Esta es una época paradójica. Creativamente, se hace de todo (a la vez y en todas partes), pero en nuestras pantallas, incluso en la calle, se tiende a hablar de lo mismo como si continuásemos en una sociedad con cinco emisoras de radio y cinco cadenas de televisión que, por defecto, nos uniesen despojándonos de nuestras singularidades.
Los dos estilos de música muy moda de esta era son tan indiscutibles en territorios hispanohablantes que martillean cualquier aspiración foránea de ostentar una relevancia significativa. Así ha sido hasta hace nada. Ahora se ve la luz, más luz. Ya va habiendo sitio para todo, para todes.
Las modas tienen eso, ese peligro. Y los fanatismos que las siguen también. Cómo coño ser consciente de que traspasas la línea, de fans a fanática, cuando estás viviendo a tope dentro de la euforia de tus canciones y artistas top, esos que parecen escribir y cantar solo para ti.
Es tan especial que ocurra eso que lo último que deseamos es arrinconar la pasión y volver a ser cabales. El freno no existe durante esos trances.
¿Qué has hecho conmigo?
Esta frase interrogativa podría resumir la locura mágica al conectar con una pieza que te arrebata. Luz Casal, al menos, lo ha visto y plasmado así.
La rockera sigue alternando sones folkies, balada tradicional, pop de guitarras y rock sin despeinarse. Todo suena a ella. Sin sonar forzado o falseado. Ella canta Ni tú ni yo o A veces un cielo (o versiona Tu frialdad) sin transiciones.
La letra tiene más gancho del habitual en Luz y va enhebrada en un bajo eficadérrimo, que ya quisiera Leiva, siendo dos en uno. Aparte, la guitarra parte la pana como hace años no oímos, ni en Luz ni en la mayoría de playlists. Paco Salazar (no confundir con su marido, Paco Pérez) y Luz se la han sacado.
Y hay gira grande.
